Edmonton's playoff chances

I know most of us don't think Edmonton has a chance to make the playoffs this year, they just want to see improvement but here is a depressing fact for those who still have hope that they can make it.

This was from 2013:
"CBC’s Elliotte Friedman unveiled: NHL teams that find themselves four points or more out of a playoff spot on November 1 almost never recover to make the postseason."

on November 1st, Edmonton had 9 points and 8th place had 14pts... leaving them 5 points out of the playoffs...

One month in and we find our selves once again eliminated from the playoffs...sort of..

To add that the club has had an easy schedule thus far and with most games played at home. They've also already overused their topline an top goalie giving him several starts in a row.

We're bleeding and we've been burning the candle at both ends.

This won't end well.

The Wagon wheels are going to come off again. I don't think on this roadtrip, but when the oilers return.

Almost every game they played this year was completely winnable. While I don't think anyone expects the Oilers to be 10-1 even eking out the odd point would have gone a long way.

This team has the talent to be a playoff team. They're just horribly coached and managed plus the players aren't willing to put the work in during a game to be successful. We have to many skilled players that coasted on talent alone, they don't have the work ethic that's required in the NHL.

What makes you think that? They have no proven goalie, poor centre depth and a bad defense. Wing is by far their best position, and the least important one when it comes to winning.

no it doesn't...unless you convince yourself like management has....

talent is more than just skill...its knowing in-game situations and doing the little things to win games

this team doesn't have talented winners...just a collection of soft, skilled complimentary players (outside Hall)

Agreed, you would think by default we would fluke off a year and get really close or make it in. Each year there are two or three teams that over achieve and surprise, except never us.

The playoffs were never an option this year. Year nine of missing could have been written in the history books (using ink) 6 months ago. Now ask yourself about next season.

We want 10! We want 10!?

According to sportsclubstats.com, the Oilers need to go at least 38-23-9 the rest of the season to have a good shot at the playoffs.

So...yeah...

Their playoffs hopes were legitimately over when A) they rolled into the season with Eakins still in place as head coach and B) they refused to upgrade their D to anything resembling respectability that would even have a faint hope of getting the team close to even mediocre in that department.

So in short the season was over and any chance at the playoffs were over by early July.

The Oilers will be hard pressed to get out of the bottom 3 of the West. If they can do that, my expectations will have been exceeded.

I can't believe playoffs are even in the conversation.
