Were they a line during that series vs Calgary in 91 or was that the next year?

Next year.

I believe we beat the kings and nux. Lost to the hawks.

Still they were known as the 'Pipe-line' and Joe Murphy was incredible.

24 points in 16 playoff games.

For a team that just sold anderson messier and fuhr, we weren't supposed to do this well.

Those guys were all PPG players and Carson was a 100 point player.

They should be on most lists.

Tikkanen Gretzky Kurri
Messier McDavid Anderson
Hall Weight Simpson
Smyth Draisaitl Hemsky

Coffey Lowe
Pronger Visnovsky
Klefbom Huddy

Fuhr
Roloson

On the second line, Messier would take most of the draws, but it wouldn't really matter who's the technical "center".

Tikkanen Gretzky Kurri
Nilsson Messier Anderson
Smyth McDavid Draisaitl
Hall Weight Guerin
Simpson MacTavish (just in case this team ever needs to play defense)

Coffey Huddy
Pronger Visnovsky
S. Smith Lowe
Dave Brown (If you're going to have a goon, may as well be one of the best)

Fuhr
Ranford

The forward choices are based on pairs with the complementary player chosen to fit the pair. Hall was a tough one for me because he needs the puck a lot to play at the top of his game. But given a choice between Hall or any of Gretzky, Messier, McDavid or Weight, I know who I want carrying the puck.

Given the skill level this team would also be very hard to play against.

Since we're taking players in their prime, Oates should be on every list imo. 45-97-142 while being great defensively and on the draw

I included Nilsson despite a very short time with the team because he was still a great player and was a terrific complement to Messier/Anderson. But I would have a hard time with Oates since he was basically done when he played for the Oilers so I ignored the "prime" part and picked Weight over Oates.

Why don't we vote in our all-time best team?

Example: Poll 1: Best 1st line C - Gretzky or McDavid

Poll 2: Best 1st line LW: Smyth - Tikkanen - Hall

The caveat: a player had to spend most of his (Oilers) career at that spot, so no McDavid as a 3rd line C.

Prime Oates - Draisaitl would be something of pure beauty.

Tikkanen - Gretz - Kurri
Messier - McDavid - Anderson
Simpson - Oates - Draisaitl
Smyth - Weight - Guerin

Coffey - Huddy
Pronger - Vishnovsky
Klefbom - Lowe
