I don't know if Holland and Co. are "low" on Benson, or if they are just waiting for him to prove himself. Although he has done more at the AHL level than Yamamoto did, so who knows what the holdup is. I'd love to see Benson on our roster.

No point calling Benson or any of the young Condors up to sit for two weeks in quarantine and then play sparingly.

Benson has had more success in Bakersfield but Yamamoto was the much better prospect and stood out more than Benson does.

Benson will have a chance because he's a smart player with some decent skills but with questionable skating he's not a lock to make it like Yamamoto was.

I'm sure a deal could be made. Staal is 36, putting up poor numbers and is a UFA at the end of the year.

But I wonder if the bigger hurdle wouldn't be his NTC. LeBrun says Staal would be willing to waive for a contender, which Edmonton isn't, and he's going to need to spend 2 weeks in quarantine before he can even join the team.
Edmonton isn't??? Last I checked they were in the playoffs and had a very good team up front. Are they true favorite cup contenders? No of course but I see no reason why a fellow Canadian in stall would not want to play with mcdavid during a playoff push

Half of Staals points have come on the PP(which he'll never see on the Oilers) and hes less than 50% in the circle......pretty much Kyle Turris at this point in his career.
A first .....lol

Maybe Kyle Turris(BC boy) and a pick for Brandon Sutter with some retention to even out salaries

Hall could be great add for the Oilers. Especially if Drai and McDavid are together on the first line. They are only a couple of pieces away from being the top team in the North.

what?
McDavid and Draisaitl playing together with Taylor Hall and Nuge on the second line is like a weird way of nullifying the one-two threat.

Hallsy needs to prove he can line drive again.

Not many players come to Edmonton and improve.

I highly doubt a 36 year old Staal will suddenly become the player he was 2 years ago.
That's not how age works. These resurgences certainly doesn't happen on the Oilers.
He will get injured in his second game, and then retire.

And no he will not be padding his stats with Mcdavid or Draisaitl, he will be playing with Haas, Khaira, Neal, and Chiasson.

I don't want him at all. I'd be upset if we gave anything other than depth dumps, and 4th rounders.

A few years ago Dallas traded Jagr around the same age to Boston. It was a 2nd and prospect. The 2nd became a 1st if they reached the semis kicking the pick to botyomm4 in the 1st. Boston did and it became a 1st.

This is a ridiculous take. Jagr is one of the best players in history.
When Jagr was traded from Dallas, he was 40 years old, and put up WAY better numbers than Staal with 26 points in 34 games.

Then he posted 67 point, and 66 point seasons at 42 and 44.

You can't compare Staal to the most age-defying player since Gordie Howe.

with Dallas prior to the trade he was a PP specialist. He was something like 8-9-17 at ES probably playing on the top line in a system that wasn’t defense first.

I hate how HF boards tries to make it sound like the PP is irrelevant.
The PP is pretty f***ing important.

Also, 17 ES points in 34 games is pretty impressive, and a universe better than whatever Staal is doing.

Why are we adding a pick for Sutter?

Spoken like a true person not following the Oilers closely this year.

Don't let my being a Devil fan fool ya, I'm from Alberta and watch lots of Oiler games. I just don't think a 3C should be the top priority when they have a lot of other problems

That's not happening. If the Oilers were a serious contender then maaaaybe then but we can't keep handing out 2nds like they are candy.

Benson will be on the Oilers opening night roster next year.

We can use that 2nd for when we are truly contenders. :crossfing

Well Benson next uear is what Ive heard last year, and last uear before that..

Well, next year Yakimov and Zharkov coming into the lineup too?

I think it'll be something like 2022 2nd and 2021 4th. Buffalo will then use the 2nd during the offseason on some player who won't help us.

Show me where I ever once said Benson would make the Oilers before that post you quoted? I don’t give crap what other Oiler posters write... every fan base has delusional posters. If you are going to quote my post and throw shade, make it about me and what I have said.

Buffalo will have a lot of suitors for Staal.

I don’t think he’s worth a 1st, but I wouldn’t at all be surprised if the Sabres get one.

My gosh, I’m surprised just how bad Turris must have fit that he can’t hold down a 3c spot. The guy was debatably a fringe number one or top end number two center during his short peak and he’s not THAT old.

Staal is a weird one to pin down. He’s struggling but we’ve seen this dance before with the Rangers. I think his performance hinges on his personal happiness and selective utilization. He looked like a number one center on the wild when everyone thought he was as good as retired. I’d probably say he’s still worth a second due and a b prospect due to his upside.

There is interest because he should come cheap. The second Buff asks for a 1st interest is now 0.

I wouldn't give a second either, with circumstances as they are. Still, it might be a worthwhile addition for the right price
