Rieder - Draisaitl - Puljujarvi
Lucic - Strome - RW3
LW4
- Brodziak - Kassian

There is a lot of competition for those 3 spots including: Rattie, Aberg, Caggiula, Khaira, Marody and Yammamoto who IMO is a lock to start in the NHL based of how Chia and the coaching staff talk about him. Not sure he will be able to land a spot of best of luck to him, we want the best team possible.
Interesting lineup. Has some potential. Obviously some of those young guys need to step up that you mentioned but if they do, could be a playoff team.

Anyways, Upshall is a good reliable 4th liner. You know what you’re gettiing from him every night so there’s no surprises. He’s fast, will throw hits, and kill penalties. Occasionally he will break through with some big goals too. Him and Brodz are very good together so you won’t have to worry about them.

Well, all I can say is that despite the Chia hate nobody can say that he did nothing to improve the Oilers in the off-season. One of the glaring issues with the Oilers last season was the PK.

Brodziak and Upshall have been staples on a pretty effective Blues PK for years - this should be a noticeable improvement on the PK if Upshall is extended a contract out of camp, given his chemistry and history with Brodziak.

Yeah he's a great PK specialist, when he isn't the one that's in the box though. Expect him to be there a lot, and for dumb reasons like being a hot head and taking completely unnecessary offensive zone penalties.

Well overall speed and a weak PK were to major factors to us sucking last season. So that's music to my ears.
Him being good with Brodziak is a big plus.

Upshall could be on your second line, Rieder isn't a second line forward.

But can Upshall speak German?
Upshall will on Brodziak's line IF he makes the cut. Rieder is a 2nd line forward if his competition is people like Caggiula, Rattie, Puljujarvi and Lucic.

I get what you're saying, but the thought of Upshall and Brodziak speaking German together is pretty funny.

This team could use some emotion, both on the ice and in the room. Believe it or not we really missed Hendricks getting the guys fired up.

Kassian and Lucic specifically, IMO. They both play their best when emotions are running high and they were both ghosts of their 2016-17 selves last year.

As much as I despise what Chia has done to this team... McDavid, Draisaitl, Strome and Brodziak are a very good group of centers. They match up well with any group in the league.

Now if we can fix our depth on wing and on D....

Rieder is more of a 2nd line forward than Upshall. We couldn't afford a legitimate 2nd line forward, and had to settle for an offensive minded 3rd line forward. Reider has shown flashes of having the level of offense to be competent on the 2nd line.

For Upshall is a back up plan for if any of Yamamoto, Rattie and other small FWDS have bad training camps. I could be wrong but I believe the Oilers, Devils and other who start the season over seas will be allowed to carry 25 players to start the season and that will allow the oilers to sort through some stuff

I think Upshall and Brodzuik could be a safe 4th line pairing that can play 10 to 14 minutes a night and be SH specialists

Upshall at 34 would be good on the 2nd line--Rider still has his wheels and it will be interesting to see how him and Leon D come together

Not sure what people see in Strome. Not big, not fast, doesnt hit, brutal on the dot, cant PK, overpaid and cant put up points.

being a top 5 draft pick and a good rookie season is the only thing he is milking his career on.

Did you stop watching after Christmas? I wouldn't blame you if you did, but I'm asking because Strome was a lot better in the 2nd half of the season, once they put him at C instead of bouncing him around the lineup. He still didn't stand out and do anything exceptionally well, but his puck handling skills and offensive instincts were apparent as the season rolled on. He had some consistency issues, that's for sure, you can see that if you look at his month by month production last year. If he eliminates the long stretches without producing (ie, 2 pts in December, 4 in February, despite looking better), he'll be fine as 3C.

As an STL fan, I'm jealous of your 4th line....Uppy still flies out there and him and Brodziak have great chemisty. They're also a very good PK duo and led STL in minutes as forwards go in that category.

RNH - McDavid - Rattie
Lucic - Draisaitl - Rieder
Khaira - Strome - Puljujarvi/Cagguila
Upshall - Brodziak - Kassian

Remember seeing some stat from 3 or 4 years ago about how Upshall is essentially the most average player in the league. I always think of that when his name comes up. Probably not a bad add for Edmonton even if he only ends up being a camp invite.

If he's the most average player doesn't that mean he's better than half the players in the league?

Scottie is a solid player who can still contribute. Good luck to him.

I have watched Reider for many years. His Pk is solid. But he can’t finish and score, he’s barely a third line forward. Upshall might beat him out for the second line, not because he is good but because Reider is pretty marginal. He didn’t work out in AZ or LA for a reason and he got top 6 minutes with both clubs. He has all the tools just can’t put it together. I used to think he would turn into a 40 point or more forward, not any more, but I hope he succeeds in Edmonton, he is a good guy.

His wife is really attractive...

He still wins even if Edmonton doesn’t offer a contract.
