Nylander is Toronto's top PP player. Replacing a 3rd liner with a 98 points 40 goal player is a pretty big benefit for any team.

Watching that replay, I don't see what choice Tavares has. His stick is being held, there is no play but to take a penalty or else give McAvoy a clear look at an empty net shot
