Last year they had Kunitz to stand in front of the net and disrupt on the Power Play.

They don't have anyone other than Hornqvist this year that is willing to take that abuse.

We'll see who steps up.
I would just keep everything about the PP the same and put ZAR in that Hornqvist role.

But what they will do is have Crosby softly float down low and put out Guentzel in Sid's spot.

That does not sound good TBH.

Just speculating of course, but if it was just something that looked worse than it was why be cagey about it? They would have said he is ok, right? Obviously it is something that needs evaluation which likely is not good.

It's the playoffs, i'd probably not announce him good until the last second.

Wasnt Guentzel already on pp1 when Hornqvist was out in the playoffs last year? And he did well

It was "no one's fault" when Giroux's elbow just "accidentally" collided with Letang's head in game 2. "He was just skating backwards and there was no where for him to go."

But now why so many fingers being pointed at Gudas who was just skating backwards and collided with Couts?

Seems a little hypocritcal.... But also deliciously ironic.

The two plays aren’t even close to comparable but keep complaining about something that happened 2 games ago.

The only player on the Penguins that can try to be Hornqvist Lite on the power play is Zach Aston-Reese.

And there's not a chance in hell Sullivan puts ZAR on the top PP unit.

It will most certainly be Guentzel (which is a mistake).

That's not to say that he won't try ZAR later on down the line after the power play fails.

Guentzel was putting in goals constantly last year from in front of the net. Took alot of abuse..kept going. Kid still keeps getting underrated

Guentzel plays the front of the net differently than Hornqvist, though. Guentzel plays it more like Sid does, battles for position and to tip/deflect shots, but doesn't necessarily stand in front of the goalie the entire time. Hornqvist is more about literally planting himself in the crease and annoying the hell out of the goalie.

Yeah of course..nobody can replace what Hornqvist does. But Guentzel still produces down there. Just responding to those who think putting Jake on pp1 is a bad move

They aren't building the right way though. They aren't just looking at the short term anymore, but at the same time don't have a path to become a cup favorite either without something unexpected happening. When their young players are all in their prime, Giroux and Voracek will be well past theirs, leaving Patrick as likely their best forward.

Voracek will be 29 to start next season. Giroux will be 30. Couturier will be 25. Sure it's going to take a few years for guys like Patrick, Konecny and others to really take that next step... but this is a org that's loaded with young talent, and if they can get a couple of them to step up over the next 2-3 years, they'll be in fine shape. Sure Giroux and Voracek will be older... but it's not like the team will be dependent on them to do all the heavy lifting. 3 years from now, that team will belong to Patrick, Provorov, Ghost and Coururier. Philly fans should be excited for what the future holds, because it's bright. Unfortunately for this series, it's just not right now.

Maybe the Pens should take a page out of the Bruins' book with Chara and just plant Oleksiak in front of the net. He's got decent enough offensive skills to not be a complete waste, and it would be fun watching Philly's defense try to move him.

The Couturier video looks bad, but it sounds even worse. The boom when his knee connects with Gudas is just as loud and as deep as his stick hitting the glass after he throws it in disgust. I feel a little ill listening to it. Pads don't usually make that noise.
