I don't see us getting rid of Boyle as long as he accepts a reasonable contract. Would be idiotic to let him go unless he wants a lot of money.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him get paid in free agency. He can do everything Gaustad can do and scores at a higher rate.

If the price is right, I'd like him back. As 31 says, though, some team will probably pay too much for him.

Honestly I think we have some youth we didnt last season and now have a little to much depth we can afford to pick and choose. I would like to see if we can package some of it up and move it for a legit second line scorer. They are not a dime a dozen so I get that its a pipe dream but MDZ and Boyle to a much lesser extent have value. A team with the depth issues we had last year but be willing to let someone go near the trade deadline.

Agreed.

And I'll be happy for him, really likeable guy - but replaceable. If someone overpays for him, it couldn't happen to a better guy.

Rangers will have a ton of money coming off the books, and a ton of spots to fill. The interesting thing will be to see if the PP fails to blossom this season. If that's the case, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Rangers forego giving a new deal to Girardi, and instead offering a big deal to Phaneuf should he hit the market. Big shot, prefers the right-side, and has long been linked to the Rangers in one way or another.

The fan base would collectively explode and HFNYR would be flooded with posts about Michael Sauer

They signed Brashear after he smoked Betts in the playoffs. This organization has never let that sort of thing get in the way of bringing in the players they want. Also, despite the incredibly unfortunate result, there was nothing wrong with the Phaneuf hit on Sauer. Passing on a guy who potentially fills a big need because he accidentally ended a guy's career with a clean hit? Not Sather's style.

Put this question into some kind of number cruncher to provide us with a likely scenario based on our history in NY, and we probably get a result no body would guess at...

Seriously. Given the cap recapture consequences, Brad needs to hit PPG and lead the team a minimum of three rounds deep into the playoffs before I even THINK about keeping him.

Nah, even then he's gone. You can't even trade him to a team hard up for a center. 5+ million for 3 years of recoup, just doesn't seem doable. Even if the avg player salary is that amount by then.

Unless Slats doesn't care about stiffing the next GM of course. I expect him to retire before Richards does.

I don't want to speculate what I think will happen, but instead what I want to happen.

Re-Sign:
Brassard
Zuccarello
Pouliot
Kristo
Kreider

Strålman
Moore

Trade:
Girardi to Montreal for Gallagher
Callahan in a three-way with Buffalo and New Jersey for Mark Fayne and Mark Pysyk (We'd never deal directly with the Devils, and there is no way I'm seeing Callahan in red)

Compliance buyout Richards

Hagelin-Stepan-Nash
Pouliot-Brassard-Zuccarello
Kreider-Lindberg-Gallagher
Fast-Miller-Kristo

McDonagh-Strålman
Staal-Fayne
Del Zotto-Moore

Lundqvist
Talbot

High-skill, high-energy team. Every line should be able to outpossess and outscore their matchup.

I don't think the relative smallness of the lineup would be a problem. Nash, Pouliot, and Kreider are huge, as are Staal ad Fayne. The smaller guys are all very intense and have no issue initiating contact or playing in traffic.

The only issue may be a lack of PK guys, but I think 1-2 of Gallagher, Fast, Miller, and Kristo can learn to PK really well. All fast and intense players.

The squad is young and could see a small dip in performance i 14-15 after an extremely successful 13-14 season. But I believe that team would grow into a Chicago-like powerhouse.

Why do you have kristo listed? And why would we let brassard walk? I think brassard might be perfect for this system. With us buying out Richards we'll be weak at center so you have to resign brass for 2 years till miller comes into his own and we can find a player to replace brass if he doesn't work out. Coin flip for me between D Moore an Boyle, Moore is faster and more offensive but Boyle is amazing defensively
