I'm in my first season with the Avalanche, playing the games myself. Paul Stastny has been injured with elbow surgery since game 27 and is still 7 weeks away from returning.

Right now I've dropped a few games and thus have shifted Tanguay and Parenteau down to the third line to change things up. I'm considering trading both players for extra cap space/defensive help, as they aren't really needed in the top 6 when the team is healthy.

Trade Deadline

The Colorado Avalanche are sitting 2nd in their division, and 5th overall in the NHL. This may end up being one of the busier days for the Avalanche, as they have two pending UFA's, Paul Stastny and Ryan O'Reilly. Av's general manager Jozay said "Yeah, this may be a busy day for us. We've started some talks, and they may lead to deals, but we'll see". When asked if he's looking to move one of, or even both of Stastny and O'Reilly he said "Depends on what comes up. If its a deal that makes sense for us -- for the future, and the present, then we'll think about it".

With many rumours floating around, and names such as Wayne Simmonds, Joffrey Lupul, Jonas Hiller, and Mike Cammalleri all out there, it may end up being a very fun day.

Hello all and welcome to the 2019/20 Season report for the Vancouver Canucks. It was a good season for the Canucks, as they took the ice as defending Stanley cup champions, and put up a record of 42-32-8. That was good enough to put them back into the playoffs again, with hopes high. Here is the lines that they played with for most of the season:

T. Smith C.McDavid S. Baron
H. Shinkaruk B. Gaunce N. Jensen
M. Foligno S. Matthias Z. Dalpe
Y. Okunev A. Hall J. Hansen

D. Kulikov C. Tanev
A. Edler J. Subban
E. Gudbranson F. Corrado

J. Markstrom
J. Eriksson

D. Fox
R. Diaz
B. Elliott

These lines made things tough on opponents, as we saw a battle with Connor McDavid and Phil Kessel go toe to toe for the leagues top player in Points where Kessel won bye one point in the end. Lets look at who was the top five in points now for the Canucks.

1. Connor McDavid 21G 66A 87pts
2. Seth Baron 32G 45A 72pts
3. Topps Smith 35G 18A 53pts
4. Jordan Subban 15G 25A 40pts
5. Shawn Matthias 21G 19A 40pts

Vancouver then entered the playoffs in the first round taking on Calgary. Here is how it played out.

Game 1
4-0 Vancouver

Game 2
2-4 Calgary

Game 3
4-3 Vancouver (in double OT)

Game 4
3-0 Vancouver

Game 5
1-0 Calgary

Game 6
6-1 Vancouver

With Vancouver knocking out Calgary in the first round it was time to take on San Jose in the second round.

Game 1
3-2 San Jose

Game 2
3-2 San Jose

Game 3
2-1 San Jose

Game 4
1-0 Vancouver

Game 5
4-3 Vancouver (in double OT)

Game 6
4-2 Vancouver

Game 7
4-0 Vancouver

With the Canucks barely skinning bye San Jose it was time to take on the Leagues top team this year, The Winnipeg Jets. Here is how the series played out:

Game 1
5-2 Winnipeg

Game 2
3-2 Winnipeg (in double OT)

Game 3
4-2 Winnipeg

Game 4
3-2 Winnipeg

With that the Canucks were out of the playoffs, but they were very happy of having a great season. We will be back with the 2020 off season report next, stay tuned everybody.

Columbus
Jackets Defying the Odds

The Columbus Blue Jackets have been through it all, and they're not even to January yet.

Despite bringing in new stars like Nail Yakupov and Nathan Mackinnon, the Blue Jackets started the 2013-2014 campaign off with 5 straight losses, and a 3-7 record in the first 10 games. New GM Jacob Peterson didn't hesitate to make a change, trading slacking Nathan Horton (1 point in the first 10) to the Philly for Jakub Voracek. Voracek started out strong with 9 points in just 6 games, but then went on an 8 game scoreless streak in which Voracek was -6. Peterson shocked hockey fans everywhere by flipping the newly acquired Voracek for Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog. Though many had their doubts, the crazy trades seemed to have paid off as the Jackets erupted with Landeskog's arrival, going on a 9 game winning streak that saw the Jackets skyrocket to 2nd in the league with a 21-10-3 record.

The Jackets success is somewhat of a mystery to everyone. The team consists primarily of youngsters with little experience like Mackinnon, Jenner, Landeskog, Johansen, Atkinson, and newly acquired 19 year old Filip Forsberg, who has blossomed into a reliable point scorer while playing alongside Atkinson and Johansen. Ryan Murray is arguably one of the best defenseman in the league despite his young age. The team is also looking forward to the return of Nail Yakupov, who has not played since separating his shoulder during the season opener. The Jackets also have a couple of stars in the making in the system. Both 19 year old Alexander Wennberg and 18 year old Oliver Bjorkstrand appear to have all the tools to becoming elite players with the Jackets.

Sergei Bobrovsky has been lights out for the team, but after suffering a lower body injury in Carolina, GM Jacob Peterson traded struggling Matt Calvert (4 points in 32 games) to Philadelphia for veteran backup Ray Emery, who will take the starting position from Curtis Mcilhenny until Bobrovsky's return. Injuries have been a significant issue for Columbus so far this season but the team is still finding a way to win games. The Jackets will continue to try to make the playoffs for the first time since their first ever playoff appearance in 2009. Only time will tell if this group of rookies can make it.

th

January 28th, 2014. The Avalanche make two trades to bolster it's defense:

30-16-6| |35-12-6
col.png
| |
pit.png

#44 Brooks Orpik | | #15 PA Parenteau

PA Parenteau (84 OVR) is having a good season with 20 goals, 34 points, and a +23 rating in 52 games. Ultimately, I needed to make a move on defense, even though Orpik (83 OVR) is an impending UFA.

He joins my team with 1 goal, 12 points, and a +5 rating in 53 games.

30-16-6| |19-31-2
col.png
| |
cgy.png

#27 Dennis Wideman | | #61 Andre Benoit
#22 Blair Jones | | #46 Stefan Elliott
| | 2014 1st Round Pick

For the same reasons as above, I made another splash on defense. While Brooks Orpik will help in defensive zone, I wanted a guy who can play in every situation. Having previously traded with 1st overall Pittsburgh, I thought the 30th overall Calgary Flames were a good team to target with my "future" assets.

Wideman (84 OVR) comes over with 5 goals, 17 points, and an ugly -23 rating in 52 games. Blair Jones (72 OVR) hasn't played in the NHL this season and will be sent down to Lake Erie of the AHL.

Meanwhile, Calgary gets a 1st Round Pick in the upcoming draft, along with one of Colorado's top prospects in Stefan Elliott (75 OVR). Elliott had 1 goal and a +2 rating in 2 NHL games this season, but I feel my team is good enough to deal him for help in the present.

Andre Benoit (76 OVR) was included due to too many defensemen on the Avalanche roster. He joins Calgary with 2 goals, 5 points, and a -2 rating in 25 games, having missed a chunk of the season due to injury.

----------

My line-up after the trades is as follows:

#90 O'Reilly - #9 Duchene - #11 McGinn
#92 Landeskog - #29 MacKinnon - #40 Tanguay
#55 McLeod - #7 Mitchell - #25 Talbot
#14 van Der Gulik - #24 Cliche - #58 Bordeleau

#8 Hejda - #6 Johnson
#44 Orpik - #4 Barrie
#2 Holden - #27 Wideman

#1 Varlamov
#35 Giguere

Extra: #5 Guenin, #16 Sarich, #20 Berra

----------

Stastny remains sidelined for 6 weeks due to elbow surgery.

C Brandon Sutter is the newest member of the Buffalo Sabres

The Buffalo Sabres finished the 2018-2019 Preseason with a record of 6-0-1, which was good enough for 13 points, and first in the league. Buffalo was ready to start the Regular Season, but just days before, GM Nutjob made big trades that would shake up the Sabres lines. "With Kucherov being ready for the first line, and McDavid ready for the second line, I had to make decisions. After it's all said and done, I think I made the right choices." said GM Nutjob. He made 4 trades in total, including a trade that would send All Star RW Jordan Eberle to Florida.
