Want to see if I did a good job, my top line is Sven Baertschi, Nikita Kucherov, and a cg'ed player. Sven is a sniper, Kucherov is a Playmaker, and the other player is a two way. Is this a good line?

My Leafs GM save file got corrupted somehow midway through the year 3 off season. Looking for suggestions on a new team do a GM mode for, any suggestions? (preferably a rebuilding team that I can build from the ground up, except for the Sabres lol)

Do the Islanders, they are always a tough rebuild, especially with no 2014 first

I actually decided on the Flyers since they never simulate well for me. I'll keep the Islanders in mind for the next one I do though.

Philly is consistently bottom-5 in mine. It'll be nice to see them do well (hopefully).

On another note, you're like, the 4th or so person in here within a few days to have had their file corrupted.... what in the world are y'all doing?! :amazed:

Ed Snider has finally had enough, Holmgren out as Flyers GM

Prior to the beginning of the 2013-14 NHL pre-season, Philadelphia Flyers owner Ed Snider shocked the hockey world when he announced that long time General Manager Paul Holmgren was relieved of his duties and would be replaced by the completely unknown Logan Harnish of Halifax, Nova Scotia.

"Ed has given me his expectations for the year (39 wins), and he was on board with my suggestion of a youth movement as we continue to bring the the Flyers towards being a perennial contender for the Stanley Cup, I've got a lot of work to do in the mean time." - Flyers GM Logan Harnish.

TSN Insider Bob McKenzie: Paul Holmgren's firing changes EVERYTHING for the Philadelphia Flyers. I've been hearing that the new GM has already let it be known to the league that anyone is available for the right price, and he has specifically put C Vincent Lecavalier, D Kimmo Timonen, and D Hal Gill on the trading block.

Notes:
-GM Firing is on
-Salary Cap is on
-Trading Difficulty is hard
-GM Mode Difficulty is hard

Not sure what happened to mine, we had a power surge / mini blackout here in Sambro from the Blizzard the other day when I was in the process of saving it so I'm assuming that was part of the problem. Sucks because I had just traded for Tyler Seguin and solidified my top line of Baertschi, Seguin, and Kessel. :(

Playoffs!!!!

jvr.jpg.size.xxlarge.letterbox.jpg

That is right! The Toronto Maple Leafs, after two seasons on the outside looking in, have made it back into the playoffs. After a wild finish to the season, the Leafs finished in a playoff spot , and thanks to a win versus Detroit, and a Montreal loss on the final day of the regular season, the Leafs clinched the third divisional spot, and avoid the Tampa Bay Lightning, who have been a thorn in the side of this Leafs team all season long, and will instead, face the rival Ottawa Senators. However, the Leafs lost starting goalie Jon Bernier during that final game, and the Leafs don't expect him back until Game 4. The Leafs also remain without Jon Merrill, who was hurt earlier in the year. He would be questionable for a Game 7, if the series makes it that far.

Makes sense. When I was playing during the blizzard, I made sure to save basically every 10 minutes, that way if the power went out while simulating I wouldn't be too far behind. Our power surged 4 times earlier, so I doubt I'll be playing much today.

Season Review

1297521397168_ORIGINAL.jpg

The Toronto Maple Leafs had an interesting season this year. They began the season terribly, then turned it around, then fell again, and then finished the season in a mad race to the playoffs. They went into the post-season against the Senators, and fell down 3 games to 0, and got shutout all 3 games. Jonathan Bernier comes back and shuts out the Sens in game 4, and then the Leafs fall in game 5, by a score of 3-1.

Hardly the season the Leafs expected entering the year.

"Yeah, I mean we expected the team to make the playoffs this season, so in terms of that, we expected it. However they way we got their wasn't as designed" joked GM Pat Quinn, who recently signed a 3 year extension with the team.

Here are some quotes from Kevin Dineen's year end press conference. Dineen has also been retained for another 3 years.

"Yeah, you know what, we took a step forward this year, our power play was the best in the NHL compared to 19th last season, but our PK was terrible, 6th last. Again, we need to find this balance on this team when it comes to our special teams."

"Phil had a great year, career high in assists (53) and points (87) and added 34 goals to go with it. He has stepped up his game the past few seasons, this year especially."

"Bozak really had me thinking of whether he should be back on that top line, he was arguably our most consistent player. He posted career highs in every category, it was nice to see."

"Naz fell a bit from last year, he got 10 less points than last season I believe, but we sorta anticipated that coming in, he just needs to work hard over the summer and get back to where he was."

"I can't say enough good things about Morgan Rielly, Evngeny Kuznetsov and Jake Gardiner. Here are three very young players that work their ***** off. Kuz gets better every year, he posted 57 points this season, which are solid numbers for a 24 year old second line winger. If he didn't miss 5 games, he probably hits 60. Gards struggled early, but he bounced back strong. He had 34 points in 72 games, compared to 38 in 82 last season. So despite the slow start, his numbers improved. "

"Morgan Rielly is our best player. Had 11 goals and 47 assists, and is tremendous defensively. It's not often you see a guy elite at both ends of the ice, but this kid is just that. You forget he is only 22 years old."

Dineen also once again noted that he believes that Jon Bernier needs to improve his game over the summer. He mentioned that he is a goalie who picks up his game come January, but needs to start performing better in the early months.

The Ottawa Senators defeated the Edmonton Oilers in 6 games to win their 2nd Stanley Cup in 3 years

Since I'm deep enough into my Florida one where most of the players are CPU generated, I'm gonna start planning a new one.

Is there any team that you'd like to see be done? I've already done ones as Buffalo, Florida, NYI, and Tampa Bay, so I'd like to avoid those if possible.

2013-14 NHL Season - October Update:

flyers-Penguins.jpg

Jakub Voracek scores in a 4-1 loss to the Penguins.

A difficult October saw the Flyers struggle after thumping the Toronto Maple Leafs 7-2 on opening night. A 5-6-0 record (10 points) has the Flyers sitting 25th in the NHL (13th in the Eastern Conference, and 6th in the Metropolitan Division. Unsurprisingly, offense has been a huge problem area for the Flyers through 11 games. However the defense has been relatively solid. Philadelphia has scored only 26 goals through 11 games (2.36 GF/game) and allowed 29 in the same span (2.64 GA/game).

Team Stats - Philadelphia:

Cor--That is a good team with lots of depth...what is Murphy's current situation?

Ryan Murphy?

He will be getting top line minutes on the AHL team. He is a 75ovr I think. Honestly, I was so desperate for cap room, I just dealt Clarkson and retained some of the salary. I could have gotten more, but I wanted to keep it realistic. Didn't want to get a 1st round pick for him

2013-14 NHL Season - November Update:

0418neal.jpg

Braydon Coburn and James Neal battle for position.

November seemed to be a month of change for the Flyers, they improved on October slightly with a 7-7-1 record to bring their overall record to 12-13-1 (25 points) and they rose to 23rd in the NHL but remained at 13th in the Eastern Conference. The power play improved dramatically from 11.1% to 18.8% (from 25th to 8th) but the penalty kill fell to 83.6% from 85.1% (11th to 14th).

Offense continues to be a strength for the Flyers, but the defense and goaltending are having trouble keeping scoring chances under control. In 15 games this month the Flyers scored 42 goals (2.8 GF/game) but allowed 46 (3.07 GA/game).
