ZeroPT - if you aren't planning on using Tobias Enstrom in your top 4, get rid of him QUICK!

I kept him around and used him on my bottom D-pair and first PP unit, and I couldn't give away his contract to anybody. This was after year 2, when he's still a good age

I literally packaged 3 or 4 1st round picks alongside his contract and nobody would touch him

I lack any type of defensive depth, I was aiming for Jones but alas he was picked 1 pick before me, him and Drouin were my targets. I really can't afford to move Enstrom right now because apart from Pulock and MAYBE Postma I don't have any younger defenders who can fill his shoes, and both of those are years away from what Enstrom's production. sucks that trouba isn't in the game.
I'll try and move him at the deadline if we're on the outside looking in, hopefully to get a younger PMD with at least 4 star potential but thatnks for the tips!!

Despite Early Scare, Wild Defeat Blue Jackets
402A0001_3_JPEG_SCREENSHOT_HFq_zps9e007f56.jpg

Sean Monahan stuffs home a loose puck that snuck past Columbus goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky.

The Columbus Blue Jackets put up a good fight, but the Minnesota Wild are headed to the 2020 Western Conference Finals. The Wild youngsters found themselves in a hole after game three, down 2-1 in the series. Sergei Bobrovsky had gotten the better of them in two straight games. But they proved able to face adversity, winning three straight games to defeat the Jackets. They won game six in dramatic fashion, too. Rookie forward Kent Scatchard scored four minutes in to double overtime to send Minnesota into the third round. Scatchard leads the team in points this postseason with 10 so far in 10 games. Mikael Granlund is just behind him with 9, Jack Connolly and William Karlsson both have 8, and Tom McLennan has 7.

Game 1: 3-1 Victory
Game 2: 3-1 Defeat
Game 3: 4-1 Defeat

Game 4: 2-1 Victory
Game 5: 4-1 Victory
Game 6: 2-1 2OT Victory

In round three, the Wild will face Nathan MacKinnon and the second-seeded Anaheim Ducks.

Minnesota Wild 2019-20 Lineup
Kent Scatchard (85) | William Karlsson (83) | Tom McLennan (87) Tomas Nylander (87, A) | Jack Connolly (83, A) | Mikael Granlund (86) Brett Malone (79) | Sean Monahan (82) | Brandon Sutter (81) Matt Beleskey (80) | Mario Kempe (79) | Corey Tropp (80)
Karl Alzner (85) | Seth Jones (91, A) William Andersen (81) | Jared Spurgeon (83) Carl Gunnarsson (82) | Patrick Wiercioch (81)

I'm doing a Jets GM right now as well - I had the same issues with their blue line.

I had to build their blue line through free agency pretty much, and I loved having Enstrom quarterbacking my PP.

If it's working for you, then go for it. I think that because I used him on my bottom Dman pairing, he began to drop in overall.

Like I said, I literally cannot give him away, so just wanted to let you know that! Hopefully you have a bit more advanced luck and warning than me haha

Question for everyone.

How do you feel about coaches being added in NHL 14's Be a GM?

I doubt coaches will be in, but I'm curious to see what you guys think.

In a mode that offers a lot of immersion, it seems like the one thing really lacking is some sort of coaching feature.

I wouldn't want it to be TOO complicated - maybe coaches only influence full simulations, etc, and I have no idea how they would implement such a feature, but I think it would add to the immsersion and the mode itself.

Maybe hiring a coach would be a key role for you as GM, if you are a full simulation player like myself.

Depending on who you hire, maybe you get added bonuses depending on what coach you have - for example, hire Ron Wilson and you get +5% on offense, etc., or hire Mike Babock and you get +10% on defense and penalty kill.

Something along that line?

Thoughts?

I would love if they added coaches. Each one would change the way your team plays (in simulation). When you need a new coach, they could have a free agent-like pool of all the available coaches.

On top of that, it might be interesting if current players could become usable coaches after they retire.

Draft and Off-Season Report

Oilers take home Presidents Trophy for 2nd consecutive year

401A0001_0_JPEG_SCREENSHOT_scB.jpg

Center Staple Murray Colaiacovo potting a goal home past King's Goaltender Jonathan Quick to end his great regular season.

It was another great year, we did have a little bit of trouble during the middle/end, getting some losses and were fighting for that Presidents with Boston for the 2nd straight year, but just like last year we claimed it. We finished with exactly 118 points, same as last year but with a 56-20-6 record, compared to last year's 57-21-4 record.

Mason McDonald struggled to get playing time at the start of the season, as Rookie Goalie Simon Bergeron was outplaying him but Mason rounded into form and finished 8th in SV%, 2nd in GAA and tied with 3 other goalies for 5th in Wins.

Murray Colaiacovo did lead us in points on the 2nd line, along with 2nd line PP time and 1st line PK time, as our #1 Two-Way Player, but also put up some great numbers just finishing shy of 1st place in Assists, 1 back of Boston's Nathan Mackinnon. Murray finished 8th in points, while Nathan Mackinnon won his 2nd consecutive Art Ross Trophy. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins finished 5th in Assists and has now had 50 assists in each of his last 4 seasons, also his points have went up 3-5 every season, since three seasons ago. Jordan Eberle also set a career high in goals, finishing 7th in goals.

Team Stats
Goals For Per Game - 1st, 3.37
Goals Against Per Game - 1st, 2.16
Power Play % - 10th, 17.9 %
Penalty Kill % - 2nd, 88.5 %

With a 24-12-5 Home Record and 32-8-1 Away Record.

Oscar Klefbom (13GP)|LD|1|2|3

So as you can see Darnell Nurse played alot more than Oscar Klefbom, and he earned it. Playing great for the 69 remaining games after Oscar struggled in the first 13 of the season. Along with Darnell putting up a staggering +27 in the 69 games. Everyone was a + player except for Tyler Pitlick (-1), and Oscar Klefbom (-3). Duncan Keith (+33), and Murray Colaiacovo (+32) lead the League in +/-.

2012-13 Montreal Canadiens End of Season Update

The Montreal Canadiens exceeded all expectations this year after a 15th place finish. The Habs put up 103 points, good for first in the NHL, tied with St. Louis. GM CP31 is very pleased, and even admits they exceeded his very own expectations. The team MVP was Carey Price, by a wide margin. Price had a vezina worthy season, playing a career high 76 games, going 44-24-1 with a 2.28 GAA and a .927 sv%. Price particularly stepped up when star defenseman PK Subban went down for the rest of the year following the all star break. The offense was spread around very evenly throughout the team, who finished 8th in goals. Ryder led the team with 55 points and 29 goals, in the final year of his contract. Andrew Markov had a great year, putting up 52 points. Alex Galchenyuk had a successful rookie campaign, nothing 18 goals and 44 points, second in rookie scoring to former Sarnia Sting teammate and #1 overall pick Nail Yakupov. On the diss appointing side, Max Pacioretty had a tough year, finishing with just 42 points in 75 games. The Canadiens will be taking on 8th seeded Buffalo in a Northeast division showdown. The Canadiens are still without PK Subban, Brandon Prust, and Brian Gionta. Louis Leblanc is day to day.

Hamilton Bulldogs Update

The Dogs sit in 9th place currently with 4 games to go. Olivier Fortier leads the team with 50 points.

2012-13 Montreal Canadiens End of Year Update

The Montreal Canadiens clashed with the Buffalo Sabres in the first round of the 2013 playoffs. Carey Price, who had led Montreal to 1st place, was forced to sit out of the first 3 games of the series, due to injury , which meant Peter Budaj, who started 6 games all year, had the pressure of the Montreal faithful on him. Despite this, he won 2 of the 3 games. Carey Price won his first start back, until montreals offense shut down, which all led to game 7, in which the Canadiens were shut out 3-0. When coach Michel Therrien was asked about the series, he made it clear that. It having Subban and Gionta in the lineup was a big reason for the early exit.

Round 2 Playoff Recap

Heartbreak in Oil Country

8312435.jpg

The Fantastic Finn, Teemu Hartikainen came up big in this series after being promoted to the 3rd Line.

We never started out great against the B-Hawks, we found ourselves in a 0-2 hole before we even knew it. We did force it back to game 7 but it was our game to lose. Very disappointing. Now all we can do is move forward.

Teemu Hartikainen came up huge in this series after being promoted to the 3rd line, he scored 6 goals in 3 games, scoring 2 each in game 5 to game 7. He's showing that he's more than a PK specialist.

Teemu and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had 7 points each, while Murray Colaiacovo and Vincent Trocheck had 6 points. Jordan Eberle, Nail Yakupov and Taylor Hall all had 5 points. Duncan Keith lead us on the backend with 7 assists, along with Justin Schultz having 7, and lastly Mason McDonald finished with a 7-4-1 record, a 1.91 GAA, .939 SV% with 4 Shutouts.

Game 1: Chicago Wins 3-0
Game 2: Chicago Wins 5-1

Game 3: Edmonton Wins 3-2
Game 4: Edmonton Wins 1-0

Game 5: Chicago Wins 3-2
Game 6: Edmonton Wins 6-1
Game 7: Chicago Wins 4-2

This Off-Season will be interesting. Older players like Duncan Keith and Patrick Sharp may retire or decrease in Overall, and this is a big contract year. We have to sign the likes of Taylor Hall, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and give Murray Colaiacovo his big boy contract. This will be very interesting. Stay tuned!

Montreal Canadiens 2012-13 Draft and Offseason Update

The Montreal Canadiens had entered the draft with 2 first round picks, and 3 seconds. GM CP31 pulled off a trade that would send picks 55 and 38 to Phoenix in exchange for the number 12 overall pick, giving the Canadiens 3 first round picks.

2013 NHL Entry Draft

The first overall selection belonged to the Anaheim Ducks. They used it to select defender Seth Jones (80 4.5 Green) first overall. Seth will likely step in immediately for the Ducks.

The next two picks belonged to the Panthers and Maple Leafs, who chose Jonathan Drouin (78 4.5 Yellow) and Nathan Mackinnon (79 4.5 Green).

Montreal first stepped up to the podium at pick number 12, which they used to select winger Adam Erne (66 4 Green).Adam stands 6'1 tall and weighs 205 lbs.

Trevor Timmins: "We were thrilled when we walked up to the podium and Adam was still there. He has first line upside with a big frame. Whats not to like?

NHL on TSN Predictions:

Potential: 1st line winger
Comparable: Erik Cole
NHL ETA: 2015-16

The Canadiens next pick was number 19, which the club used on the big Defender Nikita Zadorov (55 4 Green). Nikita stands 6'5 and weighs 231 lbs.

Timmins: "Another guy that we didn't feel would be there a our pick. Nikita is a huge, physical defensive defenseman, comparable to our own Jarred Tinordi. We think he can become a player like Jared Cowen from Ottawa."

NHL on TSN Predictions:

Potential: 2nd Pairing Defenseman
Comparable: Defensive Tyler Myers
NHL ETA: 2016-17

With their final selection in the 1st round, the Habs selected Zadorov's teammate in London Bo Horvat (56 4 Green). Bo is 6'1 203.

Timmins: "Bo is a great two way player. We love his determination and ability to flourish in big games. Bo has great character. Captain material."

NHL on TSN Predictions:

Potential: 2nd line center
Comparable: Ryan Kesler
NHL ETA: 2016-17

The Canadiens also selected:

35 - RW Mike Mccarron (74 3.5 Yellow)
115 - G Philippe Desrosiers (50 2.5 Yellow)
138 - D Mirco Mueller (47 3 Yellow)
175 - RW Michal Fedotenko (58 2 Yellow)
205 - Zach Nastasiuk (58 2.5 Red)

When asked about the draft, GM CP31 replied "I am absolutely ecstatic with the way we drafted. The first four players we picked were in our top 25. But I dont want any credit. The scouts who are travelling non stop to watch these players deserve all of the credit."

Free Agency

The Montreal Canadiens had a tough decision with Michael Ryder. Coming off a 29 goal season, he definately earned a new contract, which he got. The Canadiens inked him to a cap friendly 2 year, 2.5 million dollar contract.

GM CP31 then surprised the hockey world when he shipped the captain Brian Gionta to the Blues for Defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk. Ryan white also went the other way.

CP31 now had a gaping hole in the first line RW spot, which now will be filled by Mike Ribero, who the Habs signed to a 1 year, 4.4 million dollar contract. The club is confident he can produce at wing the same as he can at center. Mike had 64 points last year. The Canadiens only other signing was winger Raffi Torres, who inked a 1 year contract.

Andrew Ference signs with Calgary

Offseason 2013

The draft came and went and the Jets were back in business. The combination of having to sign their key players and make-up for the losses of their vets throughout GM Zero's first season.
It all began with the signing of Bryan Little, to a 6 year 39.72M deal, at first thought, the jets overpaid their RFA centre but the deal takes him through hois prime years were his production is expected to be 20-35-55. The Jets then proceeded to extend pending UFA winger Blake Wheeler to a 3 year 12M deal and 22 year old RFA D-man Zach Bogosian to a 27.6M deal.

After Re-signing the bulk of their team, the Jets focus was now on the UFA market and signed Mason Raymond and Connor Murphy.

However the highlight of the off-season was the massive blockbuster involving The Toronto Maple leafs and Winnipeg Jets, here are the trade details:
:jets receive
Jake Gardiner 85 OVR/Top 4 DEF/TWD

:leafs receive
Connor Murphy 61 OVR/Other/TWD
Cody Sol 64 OVR/Other/TGH
Landon Olanski 59 OVR/Other/DFD

The motivation behind this deal from a Jets POV was to replace the production of Byfuglien whils contributing to the "youth movement" that is taking over in the Peg.
Gardiner is an extremely strong skater and an intelligent hockey player, the 23 year old now joins Bogosian,Enstrom and recently drafted Ryan Pulock to the Jets blue-line for years to come! stay tuned for the start of the season.

On a completely unrelated note is anyone else absolutely baffled at the steals I'm getting so far in this save? I mean I acquired an 85 OVR D-man for 3 D-men that aren't even AHL worthy? It's quite unusual if I'm honest, anyone else getting absolute steals on the trade market???

CP31's 2013-14 Montreal Canadiens

The Montreal Canadiens enter the new season with high hopes. It will certainly be hard to replicate the season the team had last year, where they saw a first place finish, only to end seven games into round one. The team will be counting on the likes of Carey Price, PK Subban, Andrei Markov, who surprised everyone when he won the Norris trophy last year, and 19 year old Alex Galchenyuk. Galchenyuk will now be asked to handle first line center duties after a 44 point rookie season on the second line. GM CP31 made a few moves in the offseason, and has released the final roster heading into the 2013-14 NHL season.

Pacioretty - Galchenyuk - Ribeiro
Bourque - Plekanec - Ryder
Leblanc - Eller - Gallagher
Moen - Ott - Prust
Torres

Markov Subban
Gorges Shattenkirk
Tinordi Greene
Diaz
Emelin

Price
Budaj

Top 10 Prospects

Adam Erne, 18 - 66 OVR 4 Green
Jarred Tinordi, 21 - 78 OVR 4 Yellow
Nathan Beaulieu, 20 - 67 OVR 4 Yellow
Nikita Zarorov, 18 - 55 OVR 4 Green
Bo Horvat, 18 - 56 OVR Green
Mike Mccarron, 18 - 74 OVR 3.5 Yellow
Sebastian Collberg, 19 - 59 OVR 4.5 Red
Brayden Mcnabb, 22 - 77 OVR 3.5 Yellow
Dalton Thrower, 19 - 59 OVR 4 Yellow
Tim Bozon, 19 - 60 OVR 3.5 Yellow

GM's Comments: "I believe we are bringing a better, more experienced roster than the Montreal Canadiens of last year. We have no glaring weaknesses and players like Alex Galchenyuk, Brendan Gallagher and the other young guns on this roster all have a full year of NHL experience under their belt. We expect nothing better than the Stanley Cup for the most passionate fanbase in the NHL."
