that number 2 d-man is what we need...once we get that we can keep revolving the rest...we got the kieth (subban) we need a seabrook. another top winger would be sweet too. with size

I don't consider Plekanec as #2 center, remember the time when Detroit had a healthy Datsyuk and Zetterberg? or Yzerman and Federov? What about Colorado having Sakic and Forsberg, or Pitsburgh with Crosby and Malkin. My point is any of those guys can be a #1 center on any NHL team.

Markov is a #2 d-man on any team in the NHL. same for Plekanec as #2 center, he'd be #1 on a lot of teams...

Those guys are all stars or superstars, they're top liners. A #2 center is not Peter Forsberg or Fedorov or Malkin.

What do you consider Plekanec then?

It's not because Pittsburgh has 2 1st center means the standard for 2nd center should be as good as Malkin.

Plekanec can easily our 2nd line center when Galchenyuk becomes the 70pts+ center.

Plekanec as our 2nd center IS NOT a problem like Bergeron being Bruins 2nd center in the cup run or Handzus in Chicago in their cup run.

Realistically this team is missing 2 pieces to win a cup.

1. Top 6 RW
2. Top 4 RHD

With those pieces, and the playoff experience this core already has they would be contenders for a sizable window. Especially with the age of the core group here.

Realistically you're making the incorrect assumption that a team needs to be significantly above average at every single core position to win a cup.

There are other variables that involve structure and coaching, but they have already shown they can compete in the playoffs. I simply took the major holes that a competing and winning team has over this team and that's what I came up with.

They have the pieces necessary in every other key position, and the bottom 6 and bottom pairing, while important, is much easier to fill and not an issue at this point.

I will stick with my statement.

Markov is the #2 defenseman.
Still too early to put Galchenyuk as the franchise #1 center. If he has 60+ pts by the end of the year then sure.:)

Plekanec is a damn good #2 center.

Currently, Plekanec is top 30 in scoring for NHL Centers. That gives us 2 guys (Gally is 24th).

Don't be surprised to see Hudon and Tinordi join the team for the playoffs and have a positive impact there.

so there is 60 centres better than Plekanec? I'd be hard pressed to find 20.

If Pleky is not a #2, then you're telling me he's not in the 60 best centers in the league.

Absolute ********.
