waive neilson to gr and get wiski back from tbay , or some other cheap cop . put helm or who ever as 3c i dont care , his wheels with pelini might be good as a shut down line cuz pellini FLIES . and this was my gripe with the dense holland forever , the players themselves i guarantee want some hitmen around so rats arent out there hacking and chirping them 24/7 . then we have wrath-smith-wiski and disfunctionals such as getzlaf will develop an instant attitude adjustment . this makes the griffs better too sending neilsen there

No thanks on Witkowski.
He can't take a pass or make a pass.

I'm just fine going the rest of the year with.
Dekeyser-Hronek
Cholo-McIlrath
Ericsson-Green

Mantha. Abby. Givani. Even Svech. That's enough toughness up front.

Do you say the same thing about Quinn Hughes?
I was not in favor of picking Quinn Hughes, at all. Wanted Bouchard or Dobson, til Zadina fell, which was a no brainer choice. Quinn @ 170lbs will get crushed like a bug in the Dzone, especially in the PO's. He probably tops out at 180-183 as he matures, which is still very light.

I say this as a fan of Krug, but don't want us to sign him (too much $ & term & potential clauses & Dzone coverage & 5on5 production & aging PP specialist etc.).

That interview echoes everything NYR fans said about Mcilrath - a good guy with a sensible head on his shoulders. Over last season and this I've seen him caught out a few times, but he knows his game and has a pleasing simplicity based on being all too aware of his strengths and limitations. I'd certainly be comfortable with him being 6/7 as the season goes on, despite his deficiencies.

Not an NHL level defender from what I see. He isn't overly physical, at least not the way some of you are hyping him up to be.

He hasn't fought or hit anyone hard yet, but he does clear the crease rather effectively, without getting a penalty.

He’s a great guy, does whatever is asked of him. Honestly I’ve been impressed and see no reason why he can’t stick around.

Clears the crease better than Hronek, Green, Cholowski, Bowey, Hicketts or Biega.

Don't think he is any better at clearing the crease than Ericsson, Nemeth or DeKeyser. Just at same level and seems to look best when all those other 3 are missing.

As being the only physical righty, McIlrath compliments well this current Cholowski's development process. Any other guy paired with Cholowski would mean some lefty on on the right side, which is always problematic.

No way is Dekeyser better at clearing the crease. Have you seen him battle in front of the net??? He is a very thin dude and gets outmuscled a lot.

He has been alright this year, but he’s one of the softer defensive defenseman I have seen.

I think McIlrath will get claimed if the team tries to send him to GR. The team better look at injury reports before they try to send him down, he's shown that he's an adequate third pair. Any team with injuries on D will pick him up, even if it's as a spare. The team will probably have to keep 8D when everyone is healthy.

I think you're right. And I would be sad to see him go. I think there's a reason most people are suddenly warming up to him. He's a serviceable, simple, no-nonsense, Dman. Never gonna get you any amazing plays, but he generally does his job and is underrated at clearing the crease. When you have a D as bad as ours, sometimes the simple things like this is all it takes to get recognition. If our top4 was still Lids, Raffi, Stuart, Kronner he would slot in as a beautiful bottom pair Dman. Other teams may recognize that at this point.

On the otherside of the coin: He's slow as shit and will probably lose all NHL usability by 30

He's skating a bit better this year, apparently has a new skating coach. Worked on it over the summer. If he keeps working on it, he might actually peak around 30. My footspeed actually peaked at 30 (from lots of skiing), then I tore my PCL. I think he lasts a bit longer than you do, but I wouldn't sign him to a long term contract for sure.

In your old school scenario, yeah, I'd take him over Lilja or Lebda. I don't think he's any worse than post hip injury Ericsson, and he's more willing to fight and clear the crease.

I have no problem with a new contract for him, as long as it's what an average #6 defender gets. Good to hear on his skating. I haven't noticed it but that's prolly me and I'll pay better attention from here.

Lilja was a beast BTW totally underrated. Total badass.

I had to look it up, he's signed through next season at $700k, and he's 27 right now.

I'd send Biega, Hicketts, Ericsson, and Daley down to GR before McIlrath. None of those guys will get claimed, and so what if that happens.

I kinda like Biega and Hicketts (speed and physicality), but yeah I'm with you

Just so you know, McIlrath has been knocking guys down in the crease, he did it again against SJ without drawing a penalty. I'm sure he's done it more often than the broadcasts show, camera angle isn't always towards the crease.

I haven't seen anyone else knocking guys down in the crease, McIlrath is better at crease clearing than everyone else on the team.

I'm pretty sure this is the main reason why he's in the lineup. We don't want teams getting comfortable with the idea that they can hang around our kitchen and not pay a price for it. It'd be one thing if we had a killer power play (i.e. a legit deterrent), but, well, yeah.

Nemeth and Ericsson are okayish at clearing the crease. No one else in our D pool can be counted on to do it on a consistent basis. Hronek has the mean streak but not the bulk. DeKeyser lacks both the mean streak and the bulk. Green, no. Cholowski, no. Bowey, no. Biega, no. Daley, no. Hicketts, like Hronek, is tough but smol.

When our D is healthy, I think he offers the most out of (E/Daley/Biega/Hicketts) etc.

Keeps Mantha/Bert & co. from having to fight, which may be his best contribution. Clears the crease better than anyone, solid on PK etc. A cheap-shot/Rat deterrent.

Arguably the toughest & one the biggest enforcers in the NHL/AHL protecting our team. He is smiling during a fight! He genuinely enjoys pulverizing the opponent/sticking up for teammates. We need this swagger! The Wrath.
