You also have to account that because of the NMC Keith will have to be protected in the next expension draft no matter. That make it hard for Habs to even consider acquiring him right now. We need that spot
Nope. Keith would have to waive his NMC to be traded to Montreal (or any team) meaning he wouldn't have his NMC anymore.

If Keith retires before his contact ends, CHI would face a recapture penalty no?

That's not how NMCs work. Everybody refers to Subban's NMC, but the key point there was that his NMC didn't kick in yet.

Phaneuf has been traded twice and still has his NMC. Kessel still has his NMC. Pominville still has his NMC. Hjalmarsson still has his NMC. Horton (LTIR) still has his NMC. Hossa (LTIR) still has his NMC. Clarkson (LTIR) still has his NMC.

NMC's can travel with the player, usually requiring the acquiring team signing and addendum to the contract. Typically this is what happens, as most players don't voluntarily give up that protection.

He is not on a bad contract at all do some research it’s very team friendly, and he’d be a good guy to have around for young defense

It’s a terrible contract he’s also older than joe Louis when rocky marciano beat his ass

Keith, IMHO, is probably the best #3 defensemen in the league.

Hawks problem is: we don't have a 1 or 2 guy. So Dunc is still carrying the weight on defense for us, when, he really should be a really great depth option.

Keith s a fitness freak and will play til he is 40 just not as a 1D or 2D but more likely a 3D or 4D. I guess you wouldn't want Chara either.

we already have Weber who is the mentor of the youngsters, we don't need an other slow older player, I'm sure Keith has 4 years left in him, but I want place on the lineup for the younger ones

While his play the last couple seasons has declined with age (from a constant Norris level mind you) I predict Keith will look great again on a competitive team and fresh environment. He’s got it in him to play like a top pairing defender still, for a few months and the playoffs at least, in a situation where he’s not so heavily relied upon. And the next few years he can be eased into a top 4 role ala Chara where he can still play big minutes when needed but has more help and depth on a regular basis.

People are writing his obit way too quickly and you are bonkers if you have a contending team who needs a defensive piece and leadership and don’t think he can be a huge help.

If the Hawks are willing to eat salary (the contract obviously is an issue and I expect the Hawks will swallow a substantial portion of it for the right offer), plenty of teams will be interested in adding a 3-time Cup winning, Norris winning champ to their roster.

He is 35 and signed till 39. Buyer beware. His value today is 30-40 pts (+/-) and top 4D. But when you consider decline from 35+, I don't think too many teams are willing to give the Blackhawks what they would expect in return. Especially with that term left.

He would have more value if he had 1 or 2 years left in term.

Most Habs fans pass on this. Good luck to the Blackhawks. Times where good when your core was in their prime.

I don’t think the hawks will get absolute garbage for Keith.

They’ll get something, I just don’t think it’ll be anywhere near what some Chicago fans would hope for.
