we don't need nor want Keith.... Weber + keith + Petry contract lol
Petry is on a great contract.

Don’t ever mention Weber’s name when mentioning Keith. Weber is our cornerstone player and a fantastic defenseman, one of a kind actually.

Keith contract is horrible because he has stopped scoring and can’t rely on his speed anymore.

Hawks have nothing else to offer up.

Their other young players are trash (perlini and Strome) and a team won,t take up Keith's contract unless it's actually worth it. They do not have a single good prospect and their farm is awful... I Get that the Hwaks do not want to part ways with DeBrincat, but they'll have to give somethign valuable in order to get rid of Keith and they do not have ANYTHING else that would convince a team to take on that awful contract for that much term unless they hand out their 1st pick or DeBrincat

Saying that DeBrincat has a good chance at being a point per game player isn't a stretch at all. DeBrincat's value far exceeds Seabrooks negative. You can ride out Seabrooks contract, you can't replace DeBrincat.

Seeing as the Habs would be dumping Alzner's terrible contract on the Hawks, that doesn't seem outrageous to me. I mean, Alzner still has 3 years left on his deal, at only about a million less than Keith. So for 3 of the 4 remaining years on Keith's deal, you're basically offsetting that caphit. And given that Alzner is essentially playing at a fringe NHL level at best right now, i'd feel pretty confident even a 35+ Keith is going to be a significantly better player for at least a few more years. Right now, he'd be a plenty solid complement to Weber as a top-pairing LHD for at least this year and at least one or two after that, unless he absolutely falls off a cliff.

Really comes down to just how valuable you think Poehling is i guess. Compared to a couple years of decent complementary top-pairing LHD for the salary you're currently wasting on an AHLer in Alzner. :dunno:

Or really, it's just a question of where the Habs should be headed philosophically. Whether they should bother competing in the now, or just focus purely on the future. A case where i think a lot of fan conceptions on here may differ from team ownership and management's ideas.

Poehling is projected to be AT LEAST a great 3C and is said to already play a pro style of game.

We’re not giving you guys a Lars Eller type player for a 35 year old defenseman who lost his speed and can’t score anymore. Get real.

If Keith was 30 again we would offer Poehling++

I'm not a fan of either team, for what it's worth.

I think it's fair to say Poehling projects as a quality middle-6 Center. That's valuable, for sure. Especially contributing on an ELC. But an "Eller type player" gets you...a couple late 2nds? More, if they're on an ELC contributing obviously. But it's not like Keith straight up cannot play anymore at all. Which is very nearly the case with Alzner. So there's some actual value in just swapping a comparable completely dead weightcontract in Alzner for a contributing piece in Keith. Enough for Poehling and a 2nd? Maybe not. But there's value in that. It doesn't seem totally outrageous to me as the base of something, as an outsider.

Both Petry and Weber are on great contracts money wise.

I would do:

Alzner
Shlemko
Benn
Hudon
2019 3rd

For

Keith

He could be Petry’s defense partner. It could allow Petry to take even more offensive chances if Keith can watch his back.

This offer is way more than fair for the Hawks.

Done deal for me.

Poehling and 2nds will be impossible.

The Hawks have absolutely zero reason to take on all those pieces (including Alzer's horrendous deal) for basically Hudon and a 3rd? Hudon is an alright-ish but pretty 1-dimensional Top-9 filler piece, but that and a 3rd round mystery box is not the kind of value that would inspire Chicago to swap a contributing player (with huge history in the city too), for a bunch of mostly dead weight.

Keith may be slowing down, but he's still a solid 20 min a night defenceman. Still a significant upgrade from any of that collection of castoffs and spare parts.

You get cap relief and 1 year less cap in total with Alzner.

Shlemko you can play or trade for a draft pick

Benn you can play or trade for a draft pick

Hudon you can play or trade for a draft pick

And you get a 3rd in a deep draft.

I don’t see how Keith is worth more than that right now at 35 with zero ability to score goals and losing speed.

So a bunch of "maybe you can get a late pick" pieces you hope you can move (realistically, Schlemko is probably the only one you're getting anything for), spare parts shrapnel, an absolutely ghastly contract that is only a year shorter than Keith's (on a guy who has already fallen off to an AHL/depth call-up level), and a 3rd round pick that doesn't hold much value. For a Top-3D, who can still play at least a complementary top-pairing role. Even an aging one on a contract with too much term (which again, is effectively offset by Alzner's deal on a non-player). That makes no sense for Chicago.

Goal-scoring has never really been Keith's most important attribute. Bizarre to fixate on the fact that he hasn't scored a goal this year. Completely missing the point of what he can still do...as a 20+ minute a night defenceman.

Keep him. He’s far from the player Montreal needs. And him playing 20 mins a night is one of the reasons the hawks are so bad.

The return will be bad for him, no one cares what he has done for your franchise. You’re probably stuck with him honestly, and that’s not the worst thing in the world for you guys.

This thread gave me cancer.

Imagine being a GM and being offered Shlemko, Benn, Alzner and Hudon superstar. Not sure if I would laugh or straight tell the other GM "Do you really take me for an idiot?"

Man oh man, some people makes us reasonable Habs fans look like idiots...

You’re one of those who would give up a top prospect for him aren’t you? Go ahead and crawl back under that rock.

Nah, I'm one of those who doesn't think giving all our trash will get us what we want. Come on man every habs fan want Benn, Shlemko and Alzner out of the team and you, you ship them all together...

Imagine how happy the Chicago fans would be. Woopiteedo! We just got Shlemballs, Benn and Lolzner, best day ever...
