I'm talking about his season. He is an integral part of a dysfunctional PP. It should be his responsibility to make things happen for the forwards. He is a PP specialist on the team with one assist through 11 games. I'm not expecting miracles in expecting him to get 25 assists while playing behind a PP forward core with arguably 2 top 20 forwards in the league. I was responding to a post that singled Vatanen out positively while he's one of the reasons for a bad start and plays a big role on the PP that hasn't lived to it's best potential.

And considering the trade, his trade value was different before the season started, and will be completely different next summer. It was only about asset management (bringing Theodore in), not because his on ice value was low (was expecting a close to 50 point season from him).

Interesting observations to say the least...

If we're listing reasons for the bad start, Sami is right at the bottom of the list. Your expectations are just not realistic if you think he should be putting up big numbers while the forwards are having trouble finding the net.

What role was Hagelin brought to fill? He doesn't exactly look very useful out there.

Yay for wins!

Don't know what Yawney gets paid for. It's been 2 season now and I still have no clue as to what defensive system he has implemented. Not a single forward looks like they have any idea what their responsibilities and assignments are in the d-zone, and the d-men are like deer in headlights once they get the puck on their stick looking for passing options.

Its not the puck, Its his skating, He just seems so slow out there.

Not trying to pick on you, but this was just a few days ago in the lineup discussion thread:
I don't think Perry is skating very well. Compare him right now to the way he looked starting last season. I think the injuries he had last year have taken a bite out of his agility. He still tries to chip the puck past defenders on the entry and gumby his way through the hit as he squeezes along the boards. In the past, he would just take the hit or sneak through it and still recover the puck. Now he seems to flinch when the hit is coming and stops skating. I swear he's having flashbacks to his knee going the wrong way. He's just not bouncing off hits or jumping right back up when he goes down like he used to, he still looks worse for wear to me.

I really don't think it's a confidence/effort issue with him, it's his mobility.

Its not his skating, its the fact that they are to predictable right now, gets and perry, They are not the dynamic players they once were. No flash and dash, Just trying to overpower will only get you so far. It doesnt help that getz is hurt now and They dont have a legitimate #1 LW. This team needs to score by committee to win. Silverberg im sure is afraid of contact now because of Raffi Torres, Dont Forget Kesler got rung too against Minnesota. Beiksa Needs to settle down and not go out of position every f****** Shift.. Hagelin is playing hurt as well starting from camp. So there is alot of issues at hand here. As of now, things are not working and this teams needs a change, maybe a new voice will wake them up. We gotta wait and see.

What gives?

Anyhow, I'd swear he was still wearing knee/leg braces out there, he's so stiff-legged. That doesn't explain his bad hands though. Last night he made so many little errors with the puck it was unreal. One play stuck out to me, he was setting up the cycle with Kes, who was down low, and when the puck came out to Perrs (unchecked along the half wall) he went to pass the puck back down to Kes (wide open), and instead Perry rips it 3ft over Kes' head along the high glass and out of the zone. Just brutal.

Strangely, I thought Perry looked like a beast in the preseason. It is weird to see how flat he looks right now.

Which seems to tie into the speculation that Perry (and other veteran players) on the team are playing to get BB fired...:help:

Is that really how you get a head coach fired? Sounds pretty much ******** imo

I don't really buy it, personally. I think the message from the coach can get old, or the players can lose confidence in the coach, or let other frustrations impact their play... but I really don't think they're playing poorly to try to get him fired.

Certainly wouldn't be first time or last time that this has happened (whether it is the Ducks or any other team).

While one could make the argument that the new roster additions are a downgrade from last year, they are the ONLY ones (aside from Cogliano and some of the defensemen) who have scored any goals so far into this season :shakehead

I don't know how else to explain it, quite honestly...

Agreed. they would be putting their reputation on the line. If someone is having problems with Bruce, he would go to Bob Murray before playing badly and putting the season on the line

I also dont know what causes our top players to suddenly suck but your theory really doesn`t sound very professional so i doubt it.

And our top D pair is not on last years level imo

On a lighter note, I really think Ricky has taken another step. I think he has pretty easily been Anaheim's best forward this season.
I agree. It's funny that for all the concerns about sticking it out with him this summer, it was Kesler that we should have been worrying about.

Well, there could be some injuries and/or illnesses whether brought into the season or occurring early in the season. Then there is the fact that Perry and Getzlaf are getting older and have never had a reputation for being much into year round training. Kesler has always had a body that takes a beating. I don't expect him to age well.

Take all of the above, throw in a pinch of bad luck and you have many potential explanations other than intentionally disrespecting their teammates and the whole franchise in general.
