What is Montreal looking for in trade? It seems very unlikely that Bergevin would trade Drouin.

They wouldn't get much for him right now. If they want to get rid of him then play him as a winger next season to get more production and increase his trade value.

If I was them I would play him at wing this year and watch his stats go up. Then you trade him when his value is better.

You don't understand. Drouin at wing or at center results in the same production. Why? Cause the Habs needs more talent and centers. Going to take a few years before Kotkaniemi, Poehling, Olofsson are ready.

Do you really think Drouin is going to put up points with Pleky or Danault as his center?

Not major points but I think he would be better at wing than center.

Drouin is 55 point pp specialist when he gets help. His numbers are not that impressive when he played with Hedman and Kuch.

Good topic. Drouin proved last season that he is not a center. In terms of his value as a winger, it is difficult to assess based on last season, because when he played wing, he essentially played without a legitimate center. Drouin also is signed long-term at $5.5 million, which is, at best, a mixed blessing. I suspect that his proponents will focus on the potential he flashed in Tampa and his detractors will focus on his play last season.

At this juncture, I regard Drouin as a one dimensional, second-line winger, who can put up good offensive numbers if paired with a good center.

He was never going to do anything in TB. He had a lot to do with it, but he wasn't ever going to get a fair shake from Cooper.

The issue is that MTL clearly didn't understand the kind of player they were trading for, much like Tampa didn't understand the player they were drafting. You don't take a kid with offensive talent like Drouin and try and turn him into Bergeron. Shelter the kid with some talent for a little bit, let him produce and adjust and then set him free with some linemates who can protect him.

Tampa Bay wanted to play him 8 mins a game with Brian Boyle and JT Brown. There's time for Drouin to turn it around, but teams have to stop trying to make him something he isn't.

Having said that, I cannot believe we traded him for Sergachev lol.

If he was available I'd want to pair him with Drai. Picks, Prospects, and 1 big cap dump or 3 smaller ones is all I can offer.

We need to stop treating Drouin as a player in his prime expected to lead our team. This is problem #1! Drouin is talented and he scored huge goals for the Lightning when Stamkos went down with an injury in 2016. 14 pts in 17 playoff games as a 20 year old.

Let the kid mature and grow. He has a lot of skill. He just needs to mature and we also need to surround him with better talent.

How can he be better at wing vs center when his center would be either Danault or Pleky and if he was at center, his wingers could be Domi, Scherbak, Lehkonen, Gallagher, Hudon?

Because you put him in his natural position. I mean if he is your best option go ahead but we have seen how that works.

The Habs traded a big young skilled #1 potential LHD for him. I would expect him to be a guy that can create offense by himself and produce 5 on 5 but now it looks like he wont even be a first line player.

I'm not worried about it. He will play his natural position once we allow him to mature. Talk to me when we insert Kotkaniemi and Poehling into our line-up. Until then, allow Drouin to play center or wing... whatever you need him to play in our tank years.

Premature evaluation. Give it time and don't jump on Drouin cause Bergevin made the trade. Same with Domi and Weber. Just stop. Drouin, Domi, Weber deserve support. Bergevin deserves heat.

Too many Habs fans jump on our players (especially the young ones) and we wonder why players choose not to sign in Montreal. Habs fans really need to start realizing the damage the "Hero or Zero" mentality is hurting our team. And we wonder why Patch can't get us a solid return.
