Drouin at C - Why is this a thing?

He would look much more amazing on the wing. He doesn’t have the tools to be a center at this level, atleast from what he’s shown. He’ll give you some points playing there with skill, but his 200 foot game is awful.

This - he shouldn't be playing C if he can't take care of his end of the ice and help support the D - he looks lazy out there; he's got skill for sure, but he definitely belongs on the wing.

One player is playing on the most offensively inept team in the league whos best player is a goalie, the other is playing on the most dangerous offense in the league with more superstars than they know what to do with

Drouin was traded for because MTL thought he would be a superstar scorer/playmaker.. If their offense is inept clearly he's not doing his job.

I love this excuse. Everyone would suck in Montreal!

Good way of making sure no one is ever held accountable. All we heard after the trade was how getting top lime ice time and top PP time with skilled players like Pacioretty and Galchenyuk was going to turn Drouin into a ppg+ player. Now the narrative has shifted.

It's interesting - Montreal fans at the moment (or at least a significant vocal subset thereof) seem to be the one fanbase that is absolutely convinced that you can easily trade wingers for equivalent stars at C or D (see: MaxPac offers), and yet the only GM willing to go along with trading away such players for wingers appears to be Bergevin.

To be fair, nobody could have predicted Bergevin to screw up the team this badly over the summer. Drouin would look good on a line like:
Drouin-Galchenyuk-Radulov.

In the case of Drouin it was addition by subtraction. Our team full of superstars missed the playoffs last year because a lack of cohesion, to get a guy like Sergachev on top of trading away a guy who refused to play the system was pure thievery.

Certainly some truth to that but Sergachev leading all lightning defense in scoring and would not be playing if he did not take care of it in his own zone. Drouin expendable over T Johnson and A Palat because he did not play consistent defense.
