Beecher come on down......

Would still draft Korczak if he were available. Nikolaev is also a solid choice. Kolyachonok I like. Dorofeyev goes without saying. Chystyakov is another good name.

Moynihan is not a bad choice. Grewe I like. Pain to deal with but not much offensive upside.

Honestly, in looking how the team is currently constructed and who is in the pipeline, Nikolaev may be the winner.

That is true. But he does have size and speed. Oh, heck. Draft them both and you have two piece of the future NYR third line.

In all seriousness, I think that Beecher's offensive upside is higher than Grewe's. Beecher played 3C on a stacked US team. There could be there for more growth. But even if not, I think that two players like that bring a specific element with enough skill not to be buried on the 4th line.

20 wasn't so bad but it's a bit trickier figuring out who we're going to pick at 49, 58 and 68.

and after having 3 picks in the 1st last year, and 4 total in the top 40, this draft is going to be way more boring, especially considering we pretty much know who we are getting at #2.

Well I'm going to be really stoked about Kakko or Hughes. I want this **** to be over--the development camp to start.
Are you kidding? I'm looking forward to tons more deals. :) I want tomorrow and Thursday to be over--and then, the draft to start.

After which, I will then be immediately jonesing for prospect camp.

Haven’t done a mock draft like this since Chris Kotsopolous had his FB Blog "Kotsy’s corner". Very time consuming, but fun none the less. This Mock doesn’t represent my own rankings for the 2019 draft. Just when I think players will fall come draft day. Scouting reports are not my own. They are a combination of 4 draft guides. Some of the comparisions are my own. I had to rewrite some of it as initially I had the Rangers and Avs swapping 16 for 20, so I left out the trades in the last edit.

1) NJ Devils select Jack Hughes C, 5’10 160 lbs, NTDP U-18.

For the 2nd time in the last 3 years the NJ Devils select first OA, and Jack Hughes is just too dynamic as a prospect to pass up on for the more NHL ready Kappo Kakko.

What the Scouts are saying: Most dynamic forward to come out since Austin Matthews. Four exceptional attributes; Skating, puck skills, processing speed and imagination work in seamless coordination to make a big impact on the game. Hughes has lightning quick acceleration, and the highest skill level to go with it of any draft eligible in the 2019 class. He is a gamechanger, who is an absolute wizard with the Puck. Fans will come out to see him on a regular basis.

Player Comparison = Patrick Kane
Player Projection = Franchise Forward

2) NY Rangers select Kaapo Kakko RW, 6’2 194 lbs, TPS U-20 (Jr A SM-Liga)

Gordie “Michael Jackson” moonwalks himself to the podium for this one…A new Generation is born on Broadway!

What the Scouts are saying: Amazing combination of Size, power, skill and vision. Clear cut number #2, who is closer to being ranked #1, then he is #3. A force of skill and will below the circles in the offensive zone makes him a difficult player to contain. Kakko was a huge factor in Finlands Gold Medal performance in WJC. Equally Kakko has been as impressive playing in Liiga, where he is basically a boy amongst men in that league, yet played like a man amongst boys!

Player Comparison = Peter Forsberg
Player Projection = Franchise Forward

3) Chicago Blackhawks select Alex Turcotte C 5’11, 185 lbs US NTDP U18

Many say Byram, but I think Hawks go with the super slick Turcotte @ #3. Local kid heads home to play with his idol Jonathan Toews.

What the Scouts are saying:
A cerebral, 200ft Center who is both playmaker and goal scorer. Superb hands, and above average skater who competes hard, and has zero fear of going to the net. Determined, skilled center who plays with the purpose of influencing the game in someway shape or form.

Player Comparison = Patrice Bergeron
Player Projection = First line Center

4) Colorado Avalanche select Bowen Byram D 6’0 193 lbs, Vancouver Giants, WHL

Colorado was poised to snatch the 1st overall. The draft lotto said otherwise, but let’s get this straight. Bowen Byram and Cale Makar anchoring the blueline in Colorado for the next decade? Yeah…That’s a coaches wet dream!

What the Scouts are saying:
Best defenseman in the 2019 draft, and it’s not even close. Excellent awareness and vision, is consistently 2 steps ahead of everyone at the Jr level. Effortless skater, with powerful strides. Slick offensive blue-liner made believers out of everyone with a brilliant playoff run. Impossible to contain in open ice due to highly refines 4 way skating.

Player Comparison = Duncan Keith
Player Projection = #1 Dman

5) Los Angeles Kings select Kirby Dach C 6’4 197 lbs Saskatoon Blades, WHL

Kings drafted a big Center in 2017 in Vilardi. Kings drafted a Center in 2018 with Rasmus Kupari. With Byram off the board, they select Center again in Kirby Dach.

What the Scouts are saying: Highlight reel waiting to happen, Big skilled poised skater everyone is looking for. Excellent playmaking abilities, and the length to play keep-away with the opposition. Is a vacuum for any puck in his reach.

Player Comparison = A rebuilt Kevin Hayes with a supercharger
Player Projection = Top 6 Point Producing Center

6) Detroit Red Wings select Vasili Podkolzin RW 6’1 190lbs SKA St Petersburgh Rus-Jr

Yzerman knows talent when he see’s it. Podzolzin oozes too much of it to pass up with the 6th OA.

What the Scouts are saying: Tenacious player, who is a huge pest. Sometimes players can be defined by the opposition who faces them, in this case, Podkolzin is the player most don’t like facing. This player is attack hockey. Pushes his way into every hard area of the game. Will make organizations scratch their had on why they didn’t select him.

Player Comparison = Jake DeBrusk
Player Projection = Top 6 power forward

7) Buffalo Sabres select Dylan Cozens C 6’3 179lbs, Lethbridge Hurricanes WHL

Sabres bolster their prospect depth by adding a future #2 C to slot in behind Jack Eichel.

What the Scouts are saying: Smooth playmaker with great character. Top 5 pick all day long. Dominant
on the puck, and a highly cerebral player. He’s big, rangy and will be an even bigger force when he fills into his frame. Old school throwback refuses to lose battles. Truly a world class skater for his size.

Player Comparison = Sean Couturier
Player Projection = Reliable 2 Way Center

8) Edmonton Oilers select Peyton Krebs C 5’11 180 lbs, Kootenay Ice, WHL

Yet another top 10 pick for the Oilers, this time they grab the hometown playmaking Center with off the charts compete level.

What the Scouts are saying: He’s a player that future coaches are going to love and rely on. Consistently causes turnovers, and quickly transitions into offense. Ultra competitive and outworks the opposition. Great skater, high level skillset, and a motor that doesn’t quit.

Player Comparison – Johnathan Toews
Player projection = Top 6 forward, future leader

9)
Anaheim Ducks select Trevor Zegras C 6’0 173 lbs US NTDP U-18
Ducks grab at the super skilled Zegras with the #9 and don’t look back.

Player Comparison: Matthew Barzal
Player Projection: Top six C, PP Specialst

10) Vancouver Canucks select Matthew Boldy LW 6’2 201 lbs US NTDP U-18

Player Comparison: Ryan Callahan
Player Projection: Rugged Top 6 Winger

11) Philadelphia Flyers select Cole Caufield RW 5’7 163lbs, USA U-18 NTDP

Flyers step to the podium, and for the 2nd year in a row select a US NTDP player. This one a record setting US NTDP player

Player Comparison = Alex DeBrincat
Player Projection= Top 6 PP goal scoring specialist

12) Minnesota Wild select Alex Newhook C 5’10 195 lbs Victoria Grizzlies BCHL

Wild step up to the podium and continue the trend of forwards by selecting Alex Newhook from the BCHL.

What the Scouts are saying: Intimidates defenseman with dynamic speed and puck skills. A pass first player with above average vision. Strong fundamentals, never over-skates opportunities. Captain, leads by example on ice. A versatile and quick striking player. Defensively can lack intensity.

Player Comparison = Poor mans Matt Duchene
Player Projection = 2ND Line Center

13) Florida Panthers select Spencer Knight G 6’3 196lbs US NTDP U-18

Florida snatches up the 6th US NTDP player with the 13th OA selection. Consensus #1 Netminder comes off the board!

What the Scouts are saying: Prototypical modern day NHL netminder, with an impressive combination of size, long limbs, athleticism. The more you watch him, the more you realize its not an accident, he’s this good. Has the mental makeup to forget a bad goal and remain focused.

Player Comparison = Martin Jones
Player Projection = #1 Netminder

14) Arizona Coyotes select Victor Soderstrom RD 5’11 177 lbs Brynas SWE

What the Scouts are saying: One of the highest touted Swedish players in the 19 draft. Great skater with lateral quickness. Solid 2 way defenseman who hates losing. Confident with the puck, responsible player with poise and patience. Makes really good decisions but sometimes tries to do to much.

Player Comparison = Hampus Lindholm
Player Projection = Solid 2way NHL Dman

15) Montreal Canadiens select Thomas Harley D 6’3 188lbs Mississauga Steelheads OHL

Player Comparison = Brady Skjei
Player Projection = Solid 3, 4 Defenseman

16) Colorado Avalanche select Bobby Brink RW 5’8 162lbs Sioux City, USHL

We intererrupt this run on defenseman to deliver you the unexpected…Bobby Brink comes to Colorado!

What the Scouts are saying:
Highly skilled, ultra competitive winger. Pure shooter who hides his release point. Does a fantastic job of pushing the pace, keeping pressure on and making opposition have to work to defend against him. Makes people believe in him as the game goes on. Skating is a major concern.

Player Comparison = Mats Zuccarello
Player projection = Top 6 Winger, PP Specialist

17) Vegas Golden Knights select Philip Broberg LD 6’3 205lbs AIK SWE -2

Back To your regular scheduled run on dmen…but it’s the slick skating Broberg to Vegas ahead of Seider and York.

Consistently reminds you with his play that he is a gifted defender, with the ability to play an elite level of hockey in all three zones. High IQ, dman is able to push the pace of the game. Can play in all situations. Was great defensively, has great vision. Coaches will love him.

Player Comparison: Keith Yandle
Player Projection: 3, 4 Dman, PP QB

22) Los Angeles Kings select Arthur Kayilev RW/LW 6’2 195lbs

Kings grab one of the top ranked goal scorers in the draft to compliment their gifted playmaker they selected 5th OA.

What the Scouts are saying: Pure goal scorer right up there with Caufield and Kakko as one of the best finishers in the draft. Scores goals in bunches. Has a knack for finding open ice. Release is excellent.
Didn’t interview well, at all. Many scouts do not like his compete level. Considered somewhat one dimensional.

27) Tampa Bay Lightning select Connor McMichael C/LW 5’11 175lbs London Knights OHL

Yzerman-less Lightning take the podium and continue to deliver selecting OHL’s Connor McMichael with the 27TH OA Selection.

Player Projection: Middle six winger

28) Carolina Hurricanes Select Mads Sogaard 6’ 7 196 lbs Medicine Hat WHL

Canes go off the board with 28 selecting a Northern Giant worthy of his own Game of Thrones spinoff.

What the Scouts are saying: Massive netminder is surprisingly quick on his feet. Very rare to find a goalie who is gifted with the reflexes and reaction-time he possesses. Plays big in net and doesn’t give shooters much to look at. Doesn’t seem to anticipate all that well, making him susceptible to backdoor plays.

Player Comparison = Ben Bishop
Player Projection = Potential #1 Netminder

29) Anaheim Ducks select Tobias Bjornfot LD 6’0 194 lbs Djurgardens SWE-JR

Ducks step up to the podium with the 27th, and look across the pond to select Swedish defenseman Tobias Bjornfot.

Player Projection: Steady reliable 3, 4 defenseman

30) Boston Bruins select Ryan Suzuki, C/LW 6’0 180lbs Barrie Colts OHL

Bruins take the podium at #30 and select lil Suzuki. Habs B;s rivalry just got fun with dueling brothers.

What the Scouts are saying: Best playmaker in the OHL draft class. Very smart player who is more of a playmaking C then a goal scorer. Cerebral player who has uncanny ability to make a plays. Best pure passer in the draft, especially off the rush. Zero desire to take pucks to the dirty areas, wants no part of physical battles.

Player Comparison: Travis Zajac
Player Projection: PP Specialist, might translate better on Wing.

31) St Louis Blues select Harrison Blaisdell LW 5’11 185 lbs Chilliwack, BCHL

Still drunk, stumbling up to the podium with a smile from ear to ear, the St Louis Blues go off the board to select BCHL’s Harrison Blaisdell.

Nowhere
Wanted to also pump the selection of who @Edge was talking about late in the last thread. Petr Cajka would be a very underrated pick in the late rounds!! Very talented player who didn't really produce well in his first CHL team, but is smart in the transition!!

Now that we got rid of 20th pick, not really interested in watching this draft. Sure there is a small chance we will trade into 1st round, but I doubt it.

Nashville, TN.
I know this isn't going to be a popular opinion and I'll probably get ripped to shreds, but I think we should use our late 2nd or 3rd on a goaltender. Normally I would be rabidly against this, but I'm not seeing much that will most likely be available after the top of the second round that's making me salivate (unlike last year).

Of course, if McKenzie is right and Dorofeyev is available when we pick, you take him (he probably won't be), but I'm not necessarily against the idea of taking Sogaard or Kochetkov with 58 or 68.

20 wasn't so bad but it's a bit trickier figuring out who we're going to pick at 49, 58 and 68.

Yeah it’s impossible to guess, but I still think that these picks will be really high value picks.

McKenzie has prospects from 25-50 basically being interchangeable after his polling. I definitely see the reason for that when I am looking at his result.
