Right, but looking at the past decade, we haven't drafted a superstar player like the others. Philly drafted Giroux and Richards, the Devils drafted Parise and the Pens drafted Letang. The best pick for the Rangers during that time span is probably Staal or Callahan and neither rank on par with the players mentioned from the other teams.

I'm certainly not complaining, the ability to draft and develop NHL talent has been remarkable for the Rangers post lockout.

Henrik Lundqvist. Vezina trophy winner.

like LeetchisGod said, the 2003 Draft is still relevant, simply because the players selected are all still in their prime, right here, right now. Any other pick other than the stiff we drafted would of changed the Dynamics and Talent level of this team. Simply put, we would of done better by throwing darts at a board and picking out names that way.

Oh......and the 2003 draft is clearly better than the 80' draft, no comparison there:sarcasm:

A million things wouldve been different had we chosen another player.

Had we drafted Getzlaf, maybe we wouldnt sign Gomez, meaning no McDonagh, and no Richards. It likely means prospects of lesser value than MDZ and Kreider.

Also, everyone assumes we wouldve picked Parise or Getzlaf, but how do you know it wouldnt have been Brian Boyle? There were far more teams choosing guys like Boyle than guys like Getzlaf. Why assume that every draft we are the ones to pick the best player?

You forgot Larsson and Matteau for the Devils. Both have played in the NHL and have bright futures...Matteau specifically has really looked like he belongs his first two games.

Also Vasyunov (who perished in the plane crash) as well as guys like Mark Fraser and Vladimir Zharkov...borderline NHL guys but still if you include Weise and Horak you have to include Zharkov and Fraser.

The Devils have certainly not forgotten how to draft. They have incredible defensive depth in that org. Jon Merrill and Adam Larsson will be absolute rocks on that D for years to come. Als guys like Urbom, Eric Gelinas, Severson.

Cherepanov would have been that superstar forward you lot are clamoring for. His death was a tragic loss of life, withal.
