My main concern from watching him in that vid is that he just wasn't very strong on the puck.

Exactly what I mean. There's a lot of players that have the skill to dance, but not play with any motive away from the puck. Not sure what that'll bring in the future. Not to mention he didn't make some of Canada's world teams, too. It's a bit concerning....

Newhook was on Team Canada at the Junior A's last month.

Anyway, he's explosive offensively and his play away from the puck doesn't worry me at all.

I can understand why you might not take him in the top ten, but he's a legit prospect that deserves the consideration.

And with that I'd like to talk about another BCHL prospect for this year's draft, Harrison Blaisdell.

5'11 185 lefty forward, currently tied for 2nd in goals scored in the bchl with 30 in 41 games, in less games than the player he's tied(two years older) with and the leader(3 years older) who has 33 goals in 45 games. He also scored 4 goals in 6 games at the Junior A challenge last month.

Kid can really fire the puck, lightning quick hands around the net. He's headed for North Dakota next year.

My fault, forgot about Junior A's....

No doubt, he's a legit prospect. But there are glaring issues that might hinder his pro career....

I'd like for NYR to take risks in the 1st, but not being able to puck pressure is a big red flag, especially in a league not as high on producing quality NHLers. I'd put him in the lower 1st, ATM.

I like him, too. Should be a solid get in the lower 2nd and after!!

He won’t be there

He’s a first rounder for sure. He’s the best of the US D this draft

I’d love him in the later half of the first, would love it even more if he was right handed
Yeah, I don’t think he will either. I think he’ll go somewhere from like 8-15, but there’s always weird fallers every year, and it feels like there’s been a lot more lately

Here is an update on our guy Axel Bergkvist @ManUtdTobbe:

Axel Bergkvist (LD, June 2000) continues to tear up J20 SuperElit. Since Tobbe mentioned him in the thread he has scored 3+2 over the past four games with a +6 and 16(!) SOG. His team Leksand are currently in the "Top-10" series of J20 SuperElit, where the top-5 of the north and south divisions play for playoff seeding (all 10 have already qualified for the playoffs). In the 7 games he's played in this top-10 series he leads his team in goals with 5, is second on his team in points with 8, first in SOG with 27 and has been on the ice for 9 of the 19 EV goals they have scored. He's also performed well on the pro-level, scoring 9 points in 34 games with the main club in Allsvenskan before getting sent back down to juniors when Calle Själin returned from injury.

Definitely looks like a good high upside pick in a later round even though he technically is an overage pick.

I’ve been hyping him up for a while and he gets 0 talk. He’s comfortably in my 2nd round right now

With Byram, Cozens and Dach (and Krebs) potentially sitting around the post-lottery top 10, there is a decent chance of the Rangers taking a WHLer in the 1st round, which is pretty rare for them.

The WHL has really not been kind to the Rangers in the 1st round. McIlrath, Blackburn, Brendl, Lundmark, Cherneski, and Jayson More. That's a pretty impressive list of bad picks and bad injuries.

I think that’s why the revamped their WHL scouting personnel

A lot on here are raving about Newhook. I was too over the summer, but have since moved off it after watching some vids. I've posted this before, but please watch this shift-by-shift. There are obvious glares to his game and he is doing this in the BCHL. ATM, I'd put him in the lower end of the 1st, maybe the 2nd round....

wow i do not see this at all. seriously, this video shows me very little concern.

in fact, i have seen this kid play a 200 ft game regularly and defensively hes hardly a concern. i would say hes very engaged defensively and physically as well and away from the puck, hes responsible and reliable. i just dont see the problem here at all ?

just like you can cherry pick vids making said player look like a superstar, the opposite can also happen.

criticizing the kid for not being physically engaged enough away from the puck seems a bit over the top using this video to highlight that, as I'm not seeing that at all.

i see a kid making good smart crisp passes, blowing by defenders and winning his share of face-offs clean. everything runs through this kid on the pp. no question, hes their on ice leader. kids head is always on a swivel.

like any young kid, hes got work to do defensively and away from the puck but i just do not see these glaring holes in his game. hes hardly lazy, his compete level isn't an issue nor is his willingness to back check. seems a bit severe to use this video to proclaim hes substandard away from the puck. kids always got he puck ?

hes productive, dynamic and skates like the wind. every thing I've seen with this kid shows me a very good understanding of the game and his on ice intuitiveness is top notch. BC is getting a good one here. i have him my 3rd best centerman after hughes and cozens.

imo, as far as skating, shooting, passing and stickhanding, hes scores as well as cozens perhaps better and nearly as well as hughes.

The Draft Analyst | 2019 Draft Profile: C Alex Newhook

"He can also play physical and doesn’t get intimidated by bigger, stronger players. Newhook has superstar potential thanks to off-the-charts hockey sense with the sublime skill to match it".

not sure what player steve is watching ???

NHL Prospect Profile: Alex Newhook
Future Potential:

Alex Newhook’s NHL outlook appears to be as a first-line center who can drive offence in multiple ways and be relied upon as a power-play weapon. He is a point-producing machine and a game-changer each night. Comparables include Nathan MacKinnon and Matt Duchene. Newhook projects to be a top-5 selection at the 2019 NHL Draft heading into the ’18-19 campaign.

Double overager, starting to produce only now, at the age of 19. Seems like it's more the result of being older and more mature than his opposition.

Good points.

I want to see a lot more of him, but two viewings so far for this season I have been impressed. Scouts were saying the knock on him was his skating. I didn't necessarily agree are after watching that portion. Plus, if he does continue to improve you're looking at a 6'5 Center who can potentially play at 225lbs, maybe more.

There's content at the link, beyond just this list.

When was the last time a guy playing in Germany was a projected first round pick?

Marcel Goc in 2001??

The list I posted in this thread last week has 26 of the players on this list, look at that we agree somewhat o_O

I’ve been hyping him up for a while and he gets 0 talk. He’s comfortably in my 2nd round right now

Ditto, 2nd rounder.

To be fair most of those picks were long ago, but yeah, terrible, and mind boggling coming from the buff from Banff ;)

From Canada, we ran with a ton of OHLers and Quebec league players, those leagues have won the last 10 Memorial cups.

I am following the rise of Dorofeyev very closely. Ranked 30th and climbing

18 on CSB Euro mids though.....

Btw, anyone know if his Dad(or any relation to)was Igor Dorofeyev, former Soviet player??

Brett Leason busting onto the scene!

I hope not :thumbd:
