Hey guys. I came here in search of a thread on this hit as I wanted to discuss it a bit but didn't see a dedicated thread for it. Trotz is making a stink about it saying there is no place for plays or players like Downie in this league.
I think Trotz is blowing this way out of proportion given Downie's history of being a player who is often picked on by the ref's. I don't even think this hit wasa penalty. He didn't leave his feet until after the hit and only did so because he was falling. He definitely didn't charge as you can see Downs just coasting into the corner right before the hit. Here is the article about the hit: http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/...ing-to-get-hits-like-downies-out-of-the-game/
For the record I loved Downie while he was here in Tampa. He is a great energy player that is very underrated skill wise. I wish we could of held on to him.
