In this GM Game, the two teams that made it to the Stanley Cup Finals from the 2003-04 season to 2012-13 season will be dispersed. All the other teams are available.

The breakdown of the game will be as followed:
  • People select the team they want
  • The GM from each team will elect to keep 6 players (it can be NHLers or prospects) and the rest will be dispersed for the draft
  • We will then proceed on with a 20-round draft (all dispersed players and players that teams didn't keep)
  • After teams complete their main roster, they can either forfeit their remaining picks or select more players/prospects while staying within the cap
  • Trading will then be open for a few days (depending on activity)
  • Trading ends, voting begins

The goal of the game is for GMs to build a Stanley Cup playoff team with mid-tier/low-tier teams. GMs can rebuild if they wish to but we encourage everyone to contend.

PM me the team of your choice.
Depending on your track record, I may or may not let you join this game.

[fieldset="Salary Cap"]
  • $90,000,000M
  • All teams MUST be under the salary cap by the trade deadline.
  • Use Armchair GM to calculate your Team's Cap.
[/fieldset]

[FIELDSET="Dispersal Draft Rules"]
  • The Dispersal Draft will consist of 20 rounds.
  • Draft order will be determined by random via random.org after all 16 GMs are set.
  • There is NO trading during the draft
  • The draft will be a snake draft.
  • After teams are done selecting their main roster, they have the option to select prospects to trade or forfeit the rest of their picks.
  • We will be drafting from players IN the NHL. (No Kovelchuk, Redulov, etc)
  • The draft clock will run from 1PM-9PM PST (4PM-12AM EST). During this time you will have the designated time, starting from the time the pick prior to yours was posted, to make your selection. Picks can still be made after the clock is frozen.
  • GMs are expected to PM the commissioner (me) a proxy list if they think they will not be here at the time of their pick. Proxy list are encouraged regardless, just in-case something comes up and you can't make your pick in time. (Proxy list will not be opened until your pick).
  • GMs who fail to make their selection within their time-frame will be skipped. If the GM does not come on to make their next pick after the first skipped pick, they will be autoed-skipped.
  • Once your pick has passed, please take ten seconds of your time to PM the next GM and let them know they they are up.

    [*] Round 1 - 10 : 1 hours/pick
    [*] Round 11 - 20 : 30 min/pick

  • If you go over cap during the draft, your team is AUTOMATICALLY disqualified
[/FIELDSET]

[fieldset="Trades"]
  • Trades MUST be sent in to Donutlee
  • You do not need our approval before posting your trade. Just simply post it. However the league does have the right to reject the trade, for any reason.
  • When a deal is deemed too lopsided or one sided the deal will be put on hold. The GMs involved in the deal will be asked to revise it. After which the league will hold a meeting with the GMs involved and will approve or deny the change. The role of the league office is not to make the deal fair but to make it less one sided.
  • You must post a roster full of team info before being allowed to trade
  • You may not make any trades until you post your roster. Any deals made before will be put on hold and will not be official until your roster is posted
  • Keep in mind that any deal the League thinks is outrageous can and will be vetoed, so don't pull anything stupid.
  • If a deal is vetoed, you won't be able to make the exact deal again.
  • You may only retain a max of 50% of a player's cap
[/fieldset]

[fieldset="Other Rules"]
  • Inactivity will not be accepted. If you have just one post in the thread one day before the deadline, you will be automatically eliminated from the playoffs
  • You MUST keep your roster and Trading block Update
  • If it's proven that you have not kept your roster updated through out the game then you will be automatically eliminated from the playoffs
  • Not keeping your roster updated is considered a sign of inactivity and if your roster is found to be significantly out of date then you will be fired .
  • If you are not active for longer then 48 hours without giving notice you will risk being fired
  • If you have any questions regarding the game or how it works, feel free to ask me.
[/fieldset]

[FIELDSET= New Voting System]
We will be using the voting system HYD introduced in his last game. Everybody knows that just because a team is better on paper doesn't mean it will win the cup. In our games, the best team on paper wins. Period. What if that didn't happen? Upsets are commonplace in hockey and all other competition in the world. In this game, we will vote normally for the regular season, and the method of playoff voting will not change. However:

Say Team A wins voting 6-2 over Team B. Instead if an instant win for Team A, the voting results will go into random.org list randomizer.

Whichever team is randomized to the top of the list win the series, try it out: https://www.random.org/lists/

This will affect teams like the Rangers, Caps and especially Sharks (expected $35+ million for the top-6 players protected).

The heavy spenders will be monitored.

Which encourages guys to not just keep their stars.

Agreed, I like it evens out the teams, so people like me with PHX aren't at a big disadvantage to teams like SJ and STL for ex.
Indeed. Yet St. Louis (along with Nashville) don't have GMs yet despite the fact those franchises have certainly six awesome guys!

I chose Minnesota because the Wild have impressed me this postseason and their top line along with three defensemen have been stellar.

But even Buffalo would be a good pick in this game given they definitely have six quality assets, many of whom are on lower-salary entry-level contracts and so give lots of wiggle room during the TWENTY-pick draft that preceeds trading.

We should have no problem filling the 16 teams in this game.

This sounds fun and I have some extra time now that I'm off of school and away from my girlfriend. I'd like to join NyquistIsMyGod if that's alright with him.
