Does Matthews hit 50 goals this year?

I think so. I'm more interested to see if him and Tavares can combine for 100+goals this year. I think at least one of them hits the 50 goal mark

Going to go with yes, but it will be close. There will obviously be a slump or two for him this season but 43 in 78 games seems pretty close to his production from the past two years (pace from 1st two years would be 40 goals in 78 games). Just needs to stay healthy this year and I think its achievable.

Well, even if the pace's unsustainable, this early scoring isn't something he's exactly going to lose. So he needs to score 43 goals in 78 games. I think that that's likely, so yes.

He obviously hasn't peaked yet and he's got some added protection from defensive units with Tavares and the potential for better linemates and a better PP throughout the season.

Very good chance. I had him 4th for Rocket (believe 45 gs) prior to the season but the kid is going absolute beast mode right now.

It'll be close. He'll probably score more PP goals this year than the last two seasons combined. As long as he remains healthy and continues being the best ES scorer in the league he should hit it.

I think he hits 50. I mean he is probably going to be at around 12-15 before October ends which is pretty impressive.

If he stays healthy I very much think he scores 50+ and wins the Rocket.

His pace won't be sustainable, obviously, but even if drops to his norm that should be enough to get him to 50+.

I don't see a slump in his future,I see a shadow,as in the other team trying to keep him away from the puck. I also see that being impossible given the PP goals he is gonna score. 60 plus is what I predict! I've been trying to remember a comparable player that had that release and accuracy combination...I can't think of one . Anyone?

I feel like 60+ is attainable. I don't see any good reason why he would only score at last seasons pace considering a better offensive lineup around him, another elite center to take off some pressure and motivate him to score more, actually being used on the stacked #1 powerplay unit and assuming good health. That's not to mention that he looks like a clearly improved player already, stats be damned. If I knew he would stay in this form for 82 games I wouldn't bet on him scoring less than 55.
