Does anyone have the ability to score 130+ points?

The last time a player scored 130+ points in a season was was in 1995-96 when Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr scored 161 and 149 points respectively

If a player scored 130 points or more in a season he would be in the Top 50 on the list of single season scoring.

Will 130+ points happen again? What about 150+ points?

I believe McDavid has a chance if he stays healthy. That is a big if though. The speed at which he plays and the risks driving to the net scare the mcjesus out of me.

I think yes, at least in theory. What would it take:

- Outstanding player (like Crosby/McDavid/Kane)
- Playing on team with enough offensive quality/depth
- Other teams in division/conference have to be rubbish

Put McDavid against Calgary all year long and he finishes with 200 points.

We are lucky if someone hits 90 in a season. The game has changed. Nobody is hitting 130 ever again

McDavid is the only one with a shot. He is a talent that cannot be caged by any team, player or defensive system. There is no ceiling for him. He is a full step ahead of the league.

Crosby would have hit 130 in his absolute peak in 2010/11 before he got injured. McDavid is only player now who has a minute possibility at having the upside for it. But I think his ceiling is 115-120

I think it's possible but it would take a truly Gretzky/Lemieux- like transcendent talent with the way the league is currently. If we see another increase in powerplays/obstruction crackdown, and scoring goes up again, then I think it's possible for a Crosby/Jagr type to hit it, though it would still be difficult. In terms of the league today, I think McDavid is the only one with a chance. I think he's going to at least be on a Crosby/Jagr level offensively, so we'll see if he gets the right league circumstances/linemates/health to do it, or if, somehow, he could reach a level above them.

It's a tall order this day and age, but McDavid certainly has the potential. 6 points the first 2 games, but his linemates have wiffed on some prime set ups as well. He creates opportunities nearly every shift.

We should be asking if anyone in this league has potential to hit 130 goals.

A man just hit 4 goals in his debut! I'd say he's a lock for 130pts and will push for 130G if he can maintain his relatively pedestrian pace.

Kane has only had two seasons above 73 points in his life. He has one above 90. He isn't in the class of those players

McDavid does, but I don't know if the Oilers have enough offensive depth to help him do it. We don't have a offensive #1 dman / PPQB and we no longer have Hall to spread out matchups.

Not this season but I think McDavid can in his prime if better players around him and his team's pp works.

McDavid will this year. FACT

Matthews and Crosby could be close too this year now that scoring is up

When a player is scoring like that, he gets targeted by the opposition. I don't think anyone scoring on a 130 point pace would manage to avoid injury in the NHL.

McDavid will never play more than 60 games in a season unless he shows it down a bit

He's gonna be injured before you know it

So no, I don't think anyone in the league currently has the potential to score 130 points

Exactly. When you are that good you don't get treated like a normal player, just ask Crosby. They get played harder and teams game plan harder to shut them down. That's what makes it tough and limits top players from reaching their potential. The way he plays I'll be thrilled if he can make it through a full season.
