lol. We can make other trades. Erik Johnson on Colorado is an interesting option. He never lived up to his early hype but he is still a solid D-man, he got great reach and is a right sided shooter.

A rebuilding team will want the Leafs 1st in any sort of deal for him and then start adding more picks/Prospects (maybe even a guy like Brown).

No, we don't need to spend any more assets on wingers, say what you will about the performance of late but any team that's regularly sitting Leivo and Kapanen, and has Soshnikov/Johnsson/Grundstrom in waiting behind them has lots of avenues to exhaust before looking for external help

We just finished a road trip that almost all teams who make it have found very difficult against good, big teams that suck to play against. We shouldn't do anything right now, catch our breath and not do anything knee jerk. We're still over .500 and the sky isn't falling, and even if this season takes a bad turn there's a ton of silver lining - get to trade your UFA's to keep their value, get a real look for some guys who have earned it in Leivo and Kapanen, might get better contracts in place with Marner/Nylander than we'd expected coming into the season, etc

We're in no position to trade our first this year. People who follow my posts closely will recall that I said I could see the Leafs finishing just about anywhere this year. One month in and that seems like a very intelligent prediction. I would still bet on us making the playoffs, but a couple injuries and this season could go south in a hurry. So trading our first seems like a very dopey move to consider.

We really shouldn't be in a rush to do anything this year unless a can't pass deal comes our way.

I'd love him, but I doubt we have enough and 5.5 is a bit much.

We would probably have to trade JVR for futures and then flip those assets + for him.
