Reading Kyle Woodlief's latest Redline Report in USA today he mentions that many NHL teams could be interested in a Seniorforward at BROWN University, HARRY ZOLNIERCZYK ( LW/C) age 23 this summer, in the college free agent swepstakes. Woodlief gushes that he is built for the pro game (though listed only at 5'11,183) --who is relentless all over the ice and always out works opponents, who also can score (he is averaging nearly 1.3 Points per game this year ( 11g,12a in 18GP)...goes to the tough areas AND is a terrific PK guy..
One thing Woodlief fails to mention however is that ZOLNIERCZYK when he was 20 was senteced to 3 years conditional probation...Now obviously he has been an exemplary college student-athlete at Brown
for several years now and probably matured past his youthful indiscretion -still doy you think NHL teams would forgive and forget what he was charged wth at 20, OR not go near himwith a ten foot pole due to the PR problems its presents with their "family" marketing?
This story willbe fascinating to watch this summer to see whether any team is so greedy fora good hockey player that it willtry to assuage any bad PR ... THEN if he does get signed, how will that team's ans welcome him? Probably very wll IF he proves a significant addition to their team... what's past is past as long as we win --etc.. STILl WILL HE GET THAT CHANCE? Many top team excecutives probably do not want any reference to porn charges tainting the purity and wholesomeness of the product they are trying to promote to kids and their families.
Is there an AL Davis in the NHL though? THAT willbe interesting-to see who if any pursue and sign this guy.
