Did the Leafs get rid of the wrong goalie?

So you wanted the Leafs to re-sign Bolland to a 5.5 M per deal to spend most of his time in the press box? Also, most of the guys you named are scrubs. I mean Sill? Stalberg? Winnik? McKegg? Granberg? Panik? Holzer? Are you serious?

He's not prospecting for gold, what's the opposite?

No, we got rid of the right goalie. It wasn't going to happen for him here. He's happier elsewhere, so it's all good. Worked out for both sides.

Reimer is playing as thw backup in sj, 8 games since the trade and versus weaker teams. We got rid of him at the right time.
This thread should be started next year after the tdl or the end of the season when there is actually enough to gage it on.

Does anyone get the feeling that Calgary is getting ready to throw the big bucks at Reimer? Thought I read somewhere that neither of their current goalies are to be brought back.

I could see them doing that for sure .. Plus Burke ties to Reimer. Makes a ton of sense

Yes, of course. .938, 6-2-0, 3 SO, 1.62 gaa -- that's a #1 goaltender on a contending team.

It does kind of burn at how many ex-Leafs are on playoff teams right now: Reims, Spaling, Polak, Schenn, Versteeg, Holzer, Steen, Gunnarsson, Panik, Granberg, Kessel, Moore, Grabovski, Kulemin, Stalberg, Winnik, Sill, Bolland, McKegg, Stralman...

What that says to me is that the players were not the principal problem with this team over the years, but rather the front office and coaching staff.

Hm this opinion lacks a lot of common sense. I agree that management and coaching is a prime issue, however, contrasting your defense with depth players as drivers of success is laughable

The issue falls into a lack of an established core group of players and more importantly the lack of a franchise player

Well SJ are a much better team than the Leafs so it is not very surprising that Riemer is doing better.

8 games isn't a very big sample size to determine ANYTHING from.

Its better to judge his whole season of work, which is great.

I still think the Leafs made the right move because he can come back in the summer. My biggest concern was always giving him a LT contract.

I like Reims but he has to many health issues going on all the time. He can't handle a starters workload it seems.

geez, I thought this was going to be a thread about Pogge/Rask

I don't need that in my life anymore. It's like remembering that time you **** your pants in middle school or threw up in class. It's terrible, and let's just not talk about it, okay?

They sure did! I have been saying it for years... Reimer is a legit #1!

Bernier is hot garbage.

no not the direction we wanted to go. chances are reims may have one us a couple more games down the stretch. some times its best to cut the line and walk away rather then resign and regret it

Reimer is 6-2 with a .938 save percentage and 3 shutouts in 8 games with San Jose.

The Reimer trade is another mistake management has made.
They gave Reimer away which only degrades their future trades as team realize if the leafs want to get rid of a player they can play low ball and steal that player

Did OP forget Reimer asked for like 6 mil? Obviously he wouldn't have signed here in the summer, couldn't lose him for nothing. Leafs can't get rid of a guy who doesn't want to play here.

Reimer is 6-2 with a .938 save percentage and 3 shutouts in 8 games with San Jose.

IMHO they decided their goalie of the future was Reimer, and dealt him to the Sharks so that they could give Bernier starts to increase his trade value, and to run Sparks through the gauntlet to see what he had in him.

The alternative would've been to have Reimer "get injured" à la Lupul/Bozak/Robidas/etc. but they traded him instead.

I would guess the reasoning lies somewhere along the line of giving Reimer a chance to play some playoff games and exorcise the spectre of Game 7 against the Bruins.

Not even so much for Reiner himself, but for the fanbase.

If Reimer is this summer's goalie FA signing, it's a lot easier to sell the fanbase on it if Reimer has a) won with another team (currently 6-2-0 with three shutouts!) and b) won a playoff game to prove he isn't a choke artist.

And the irony of ironies is that if he does win a playoff game (and dare to dream, a playoff series!) he would do it for a team with possibly a worse choking reputation than Toronto!
