What you won’t see in the highlights are maybe 7 or 8 insane plays by Hughes that didn’t result in scores, but nearly did, just cutbacks to find guys across the ice with laser passes, lightning quick set ups of guys around the net, mind blowing skating and plays to find space, puck movement you won’t see another player make . . .

Really he put on a show. I don’t remember another guy with his mix of skills. He’s a true center. Better hands and vision than McDavid I would say. Not his flat out speed, strength or one on one ability to break down a D - but potentially as creative in a team mix.

This is the real deal. My first real look at him and I am a believer. The kid should sell tickets. He’s worth the price of an admission.

I don't recall seeing such consistently good pinpoint passes from a player. He just consistently found an open man in a scoring position all night. There were 3 or 4 times that it seemed like there was nothing there and bang the puck is cross ice on the tape of someone in a shooting position. Hughes was a magician tonight.

beating the rags is fun idgaf if it didn’t count because if the roles were reversed they’d be talking **** and we’d be screeching “it’s only preseason!”

Fun yes but a bit of an asterisk for me after the way they curbstomped us in the regular season last year. I'm waiting for us to do it when it matters.

Hughes just drags defenders into defending him leaving his linemates wide open at times. I hope that continues in the regular season.

Hughes fired one wrist shot tonight that was on a wire. He can bring the velocity to beat goalies from mid range.

While I’m sure his competition was not the same one thing Hughes did tonight that might have been over looked is his work in the dot. He sure seemed to have won a lot of faceoffs.

The back check on that two on one? His closing speed was freaky.
