GDT: Devils vs Islanders - 7:30pm 4/11/14: Season Effort Edition

I know the islanders didn't beat the Devils in any of the games this season without the gimmick, but we had lethargic/bad efforts from most of our vets tonight.
Greene an example of just playing miserably.
I guess it's human nature to let down when the games means little.

Regardless, I think it's BUSH-LEAGUE that the refs allowed that crap to occur in the shootout.


Isles don't need help to beat a team that was 0-12 coming into the Gimmick. Yet, they gave it.

a regular season 'show' for the lowest common denominator.

This is what I don't get.


Why use a Gimmick in the regular season when you're not going to use it in the Postseason?


This gimmick belongs in the AllStar game. That's all.

Hi guys, Isle's fan coming in peace...I hate that SO move and truly hope that the NHL makes changes over the summer to the rules pertaining to that move specifically. Right now they state that it is legal as long as the puck is in motion. This is junk, as any hockey fan would agree. If a guy comes to a stop while skating, it should be illegal. Every team in the league has gotten burnt because of this type of play being allowed. It's not fair to Anyone.

On another note, I've never minded listening the Devils game feeds of our match-ups. Chico has always been entertaining and just seems like a real cool guy. He's got admirers amongst Isle and Devil fans. Cheers to him

Marty's saves in the 3rd and OT were vintage and you can't get any better.
So glad I watched this game to see them.

I will say this, if Sunday does get to a SO, I'm out the doors and in my car by the time the first shooter touches the puck at center ice.

i agree, im glad i tuned in to this meaningless game to see marty and listen to the best in the business, chico.

The isles haven't beaten the Devils in any game period this year. Shootout simply determines who gets an extra point but it's not a part of the game. That's why there is another column in the standings. The Devils and the Islanders played to a tie but the Islanders got an extra point for some circus **** after the game ended. Not like this game meant anything to either team anyway.

Both goals were soft and he was embarrassed in the shootout. He didnt' even looked like he wanted to play.

the bailey goal was very tough since he elevated the puck. But the 2 others were stoppable. Nielsen didn't even go to his bread and butter. It was a lazy boy wrist shot through the pads

I'm not saying the Devils didn't do themselves *in*...in other ways. That's also a pet peeve of mine this season which points more toward Deboer than anything else.


That said, if Ties were still around(instead of the Gimmick), the Devils would be getting ready for the 1st round of the playoffs right now.


I'm praying that COMMON SENSE prevails with the Toronto Brainless-trust and 3-on-3 (or an extended 4-on-4) is enacted and the Shootout is eliminated.

Hockey is supposed to be a TEAM SPORT but the shootout glorifies INDIVIDUALS.

Maybe one day the NHL will grow a pair of balls and correct the mistake they made 9 years ago and abolish this shootout garbage. It's a ****ing farce and the Islanders last two attempts completely demonstrate that point. And this has nothing to do with how bad the Devils are because aside from these last two seasons, they were masters at it. It just isn't hockey. Its gimmick bull **** that only serves to complicate the standings.

Nearly every player I grew up with is retired at this point. I'm going to go as far to say that I'll likely stop watching this league once they're all gone. I hate what this league has become and the shootout is pretty high on the list of the reasons why. Awarding wins for this garbage, 9 years of it is enough. I really can't ****ing stand it.

finally just saw the 2 "spin-o-rama" goals and well while stromes was borderline to me, i dont' see how bailey's was allowed. He didnt' just come to a complete stop but actually stopped the puck set it then back handed it in. Strome atleast still had the puck in motion somewhat but even he didn't do it properly.

They should really just make that move illegal, its such a general rule that the guy can spin/stop/set the puck/back hand it and it counts because it's a "spin-a-roma" If they want to keep the move in they should make an admendment that the whole move has to be continuous, can't complete the spin then backhand, has to be all one motion.

They usually don't give up much, but they have to be in the bottom 5 in legitimate quality scoring chances themselves.
They do pass up a lot of chances.

If Marty was going to get pi**y he should have done it when they were running him during the latter part of the game at least.

Yes, they are too soft a group.
They didn't protect either goalie very well this season nor when guys like Patty or Henrique were getting ran by opponents.
