I can't think of a worse game played than this all year. Some of those Western Canadian games in Edmonton and Calgary were pretty terrible, this was really horrific though.

The only redeeming factor is that the Islanders aren't a bottom feeder team.

Yep and it only gets worse with this being the first of 6 games in 10 days. That means almost no time to practice without tiring guys out.

What we really need are some legit third line players. That way we don't need TRASH players allergic to offense like Josefson filling in for when our top 6 players go down.

Josefson is one of the worst offensive players I've seen play on this team in years, at least in an actual nightly role and absolutely in a top 9 role.

I am so aggravated with Patty. He needs to step it up in a game like this and find the fountain of youth for a game or so. He looked like Michael Ryder just cruising around and not taking a single body.

The only positive I'm taking out of this game is that Tootoo was invisible. That's a pretty good thing by his standards, it means we weren't pinned in the defensive zone all night. Now that might also be because we were trailing by multiple goals for what? 45 or 50 minutes of this game?

Matteau was junk, what else is new with him? Josefson continues to show he's allergic to offense. Like completely handicapped with offense. Elias with a chest snipe early in the game.

First thing to do is get a REAL 3rd line.

Josefson has proved over 210 career games that's a 4th liner at best. Just let Gionta go and sign him to be the 4th line center. If he doesn't like that, see ya later in Sweden pal. Kalinin isn't doing anything to show he deserves being in a 3rd line role either, 15 points in a season isn't good enough for a 3rd liner.

I'd like to purge half of these bottom 6 guys. We need a few of them for the 4th line, but the other half need to go away. I'm also tired of Matteau. Can't defend Conte when we don't have any forward draft picks contributing at this level from 2009 onward. He got exactly what he deserved when Shero sacked him, he's also getting exactly what he deserves in not having another job right now.

I'm thinking he's waived after next training camp, unless he somehow earns a night spot before then.

If he's continued to be used as a rotational forward for the remainder of the year, I think he's outta here next season.

To be fair, he did look good for about 3 or 4 games before the last time he was scratched. I don't agree with Hynes scratching him after that stretch, not sure why he did that.

But Matteau hasn't done much other than those games to warrant being in.

There's no way his offense can be defended at all. 210 career games and he's got 42 points career. And I still see people claiming he could become a 2nd line center. That's what a low end 2nd line player should have over 82 games.

A third line player should have at least 30 points over 82. As I said, Josefson's first point of his last 30 goes back to March 1st 2012.

That's 158 games played ago for him, if my count is right. So Josefson over that span has averaged not much better than 15 points per 82. He's on pace for 15 this year. In his career he's produced at a rate of 16 points per 82. His best season of offense was actually his rookie year in 10-11. 10 points in 29 games, on pace for 29 in 82. That's the only season he's produced like an acceptable third line player.

I just don't get why Shanahan could hire conte after hiring Lou. I mean, he's incapable of drafting a forward. At least Lou could pull off a heist every now and then, but Conte is like Roy. Damn near untouchable

Wait a minute, Conte was hired by the Leafs? I must have missed this. I don't remember hearing this.

Last I heard was they claimed they had no plans to hire him, but that was way back in the summer. Sometime during August.
