Probably a question for TAN, but I've been asking everyone this for a while and seeing or hearing the name Elvis triggers it.

How come almost every Elvis impersonator is the older (not that Elvis was ever very old, he died at 42), heavier, hairier, sideburns. like late 1960s onward Elvis and not the young, good looking, shorter haired, 1950s/early 1960s era, clean cut Elvis?

Is it because it's easier to find whigs and fake sideburns for the later era Elvis?

It’s because to most people the Vegas era Elvis look is the iconic look. Having been to Graceland there is a room there of nothing but those jumpsuits. Apparently they couldn’t be cleaned. There are tons of them. And to be fair he wore them before he got fat. My mom saw him in maybe 1972 or 1973 at MSG. She has always said he wasn’t fat yet when she saw him but he was already wearing the jumpsuits and handing out scarves. Imitators usually go for the low hanging fruit. Beatle impersonator bands typically go with either the black Hard Days Night look or the Shea Stadium military jackets. The Sgt Pepper outfits are apparently hard to play in from what I’ve read. But the easily recognizable looks make sense as an imitator.
