GDT: Devils vs Blue Jackets

They have one of the worst goal songs in the league. I’m talking about what comes after for those about to rock.

They’ve had that song for at least 10 years now.

It’s almost like some teams just want a “woah oh oh woah” song. There’s quite a few.

The Blues are another one. Their song is also trash.

Everyone wants to emulate the Rags trash goal song it seems.

This is why I miss RRPT2 (still think it's BS that we can never go back to it just 'cause of a POS that is more than likely not collecting royalties anymore) but I digress.

I found out last year while watching a Blue Jackets game on the feed for whatever team they were playing that the cannon fire you hear isn’t even from the actual cannon, and that it’s a sound clip that’s played.

The cannon does actually go off, but it’s not what’s making the actual noise.

It’s pretty hilarious that when they’re showing the cannon go off, which they do on every single goal on the Blue Jackets feed, a guy standing closest to it or even an usher will jump when the cannon is shown going off. That appears to be part of the mirage of the cannon. I’m not sure if the cannon sounds louder the closer you get to it than it does on the other side of the building, but apparently it isn’t the actual cannon making the noise.

Which I think is super lame, that it isn’t even the cannon making all that noise. But some sound clip.

I found they use different people who wear that revolutionary war outfits doing corny lame sh-t on the side of the cannon when it fires.

There was this fat guy with a mustache doing these weird dances while the Cannon was "Firing" and I was thinking 'these people are actually paid to do this'.

How come almost every Elvis impersonator is the older (not that Elvis was ever very old, he died at 42), heavier, hairier, sideburns. like late 1960s onward Elvis and not the young, good looking, shorter haired, 1950s/early 1960s era, clean cut Elvis?

Is it because it's easier to find whigs and fake sideburns for the later era Elvis?

Its an actual fireworks blast from the rafters away from people. it is NOT a sound clip.

Tarasov has been out all season execpt for a few starts in Cleveland on a rehab assignment. Sounds like he played well in Cleveland but he is a big goalie (6'5")who has been highly touted but hasn't been able to stay healthy.

Columbus is going to need to make a decision on him or Spencer Martin relatively soon because they aren't carrying 3 goalies forever. No matter who is in goal the defense is terrible. They give up 34 shots a game on average. Just get lots of shots on goal tonight. Tarasov is going to be a bit rusty in NHL speed.

I didn’t even realize until before that that it wasn’t the actual cannon. Every time they show it go off the people near it seem to jump like a bomb went off a few feet from them.

The cannon does appear to go off, because you can see something come out of it, but I guess it’s just a blank or smoke machine?

Yeah, they have a flash coordinated with a bit of smoke as part of the show but if you ever go to the arena, you'll see a puff of smoke from the blast up in he rafters too. It is pretty loud.

It is obviously more impactful if the team doesn't suck so bad. I'd like to eventually see this team have real success since it is my home and I've been here since the beginning but everything that makes them the laughing stock is deserved right now.

With that being said, the mid 90's Devils are what made me a hockey fan so I'm glad seeing the success they are having after rebuilding and drafting the right way.
