I don't understand this at all, doesn't the last hard hat winner award it to the next one?

Did Kennedy get it the last game? Maybe they're friends.

They always want to give it to a less obvious guy seemingly. Wedge was the obvious choice (especially since he may go back down in another game or two), but might as well embrace an opportunity to give Ruutu one after one of his RARE decent games.

Good chance of it, I think. Every time he has to take a faceoff because his center is thrown out he seems to win it, and he's getting better defensively every game. Out there in the last minute this game, shows a lot of trust building for him.

Hate to stat check you but he's 7/25 - a dysmal 28%

Cory wasn't even that great the few weeks before he 'got hurt'...if he was fighting the injury during that time then no way he should come back now at least till he's 100%.

I doubt it. You can clearly see the play where his knee bent to much that caused the injury.

Problem was the team was playing really loose and unstructured defensively.

IDK if its because a bunch of guys were battling injuries (seems all of them are hurt right now in some form) or just they somehow lost their heads but that was the problem.

I think you can add Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre to that list.
There's a random name. I remember the game he scored on us for the Jackets. One of the rare non-wins against us pre 2013. I believe that game ended in a tie. Early 02-03 I wanna say.
If they keep winning with Wedgewood ride him out Hamburglar style. He should play anyway till he loses at this point. Which may well be the next game but it's not like status quo was doing all that great in goal. It was nice to at least have goaltending that stopped the stoppable shots again. And they needed it cause it was more awfulness for the first two periods till they finally showed up in the third.
Yeah I thought the 2nd period was pretty gross. We were playing in our end the entire opening 5 minutes until the goal was scored.

Wedge got the first star. The hard hat is a locker room thing, we don't know the reasons why one guy gives it to another.

Oooffff!

And I think Johnny Mac awarded Ruutu the hard hat tonight.

Remember him during the 2nd period, saying he had energy and was snakebitten this year?

Yeah that was cringe worthy stuff from JMac. Ruutu did nothing this game but it may just be a feel good locker room thing to throw the guy a bone which I get. Everyone else has probably gotten the hard hat once except him so...

Last game was Kennedy's first hard hat. I can't think of many guys who haven't gotten it yet, not guys who have been up all year.

What do we have? 34 wins? Or is it 35 tonight? There was one point where not too many guys had won 2 different times.

Tootoo definitely had one early on. I don't remember if Gionta has had one though?

I think Gio got it that one game where he blocked a bunch of shots and had that clear at the end of the game a while back.

Then I can't think of too many regulars that have been here all year or most of it, that haven't gotten it yet.
People getting upset about who gets the hard hat is probably one of the weirdest things on this board

Now I don't think anybody here has gotten upset about it.

I just thought it was semi odd and half-heartedly questioned it.

But I certainly wouldn't say upset about it. When I'm upset about something on here, I get a lot more heated than Ruutu getting the hard hat.

It's better than the alternative of a bunch of doom and gloom posts about how we can never beat Columbus though.

That isn't an alternative though since we won. We could just talk about the win. Give Wedge some more props.

Discuss Mozik (I thought he was serviceable but nothing special tonight). Look ahead and what to do with the goal tending for the final 9.

Give more love to Boosh and DSP. Or give Lars and Greene some serious love for logging some heavy minutes tonight and doing work.

Or someone can figure out why we can't score on a 5 on 3. We have been good on the 5 on 4 all year, why are we so bad 5 on 3?

True, but this is HF. We argue about trivial **** all the time.

It was nice to see them give Wedge a shot tonight and not just stick with what didn't work Saturday in goal.

He absolutely earned a look considering he seems to have elevated his game in Albany for the first time in his career.

Okay....I come back here late because I was busy doing more important things than watching the Devils lose to this sad-sack franchise and what do I see?

A Devils WIN?????????????? WTF??????????

With Wedge in Goal? Again.....WTF???????????

I just have to say one thing about that :

F.U. BLUEJACKETS AND GET THE HELL OUT OF OUR ARENA!

I am so damn relieved that we finally beat that piece of crap franchise team. I'm sure if I was watching the game, I would be jumping up and down with glee but the previous demolition by that same sad sack team prevented me from watching tonight.

Besides, there won't be any playoffs this year anyway so in essence, what this is right now, is a team playing out the string. Something I hate seeing. Nothing worse than a team playing for nothing more than pride.

Whatever, though. At least they beat that garbage team finally. Now Torts can F off.

EDIT : BTW, I know the players vote for it but just what the hell has Rutuu done to earn a hard hat? Did the players feel sorry for him or something?

Come on. Playoff fire is lit. We only need to win 9 more games.

Bad news is there are only 9 games left...

Wedge looked great, really compact and solid with his angles. His rebound control was really good. How big is he, he looks smallish but then again his pads looked way smaller than most of the pad walls these days.

He reminds me of someone but can't figure it out, maybe Moose a little. Not as scrambly if that makes sense.

I'd like to see him be a tad more aggressive next game. I felt there were times he was to deep in his net. Might just be nerves for his first game.

I'm not familiar with his style but I think he relies on his quickness more than anything, he is smaller so coming out would help a bit. Kinkaid on the other hand has been way too aggressive at times getting himself way out of position and into some trouble trying to recover.

I agree on Kinky. He is definitely overly aggressive and he gets caught easily because of it. It would serve him better to get a bit deeper and cool it.

I don't want to see much more aggression from Wedge. Just a little. I think he will be better served from it.
