I mean I'm sure he'd want any job he could have gotten after the Vancouver fiasco, there were eight openings last offseason - I doubt we would have been his first choice if he had a choice. And a lot of the other openings got filled by inexperienced guys too.

Let's put it this way

Almost HALF the teams in the league have made a coaching change in between Torts firing from Vancouver and being hired by Columbus. Also include the summer of 2014 and during the season in 2014-2015. Pittsburgh, Washington, Ottawa, Devils when we fired Pete, Toronto when they fired Carlyle. Then you had the 8 last year. Us and Toronto made 2 different coaching changes in the time he was sitting at home.

So if he had any extra motivation to beat us for passing him over, then he should have the extra motivation to beat almost half the teams in the league.

But maybe he doesn't have that motivation, since Columbus doesn't win very many games.

I'm not familiar with his style but I think he relies on his quickness more than anything, he is smaller so coming out would help a bit. Kinkaid on the other hand has been way too aggressive at times getting himself way out of position and into some trouble trying to recover.

Didn't Marty rely on his quickness, too?

Like Devs26 said, I think he would have taken any job he could get last summer. But I don't think that he really particularly wanted this job here.

It took two ****in morons (and don't kid yourself, Jarmo and JD are not the outstanding management people that the league claims they are) to hire him in Columbus, after they fired their head coach after an 0-8-0 start. I bet they only fired Richards because they also believed they were a legit playoff contender and could possibly win the Metro. My only sympathy for them is they're on a budget.

8 job openings last summer, however many job openings there were the summer before that, after Vancouver fired him.

I legitimately would've stopped watching the Devils until they fired him... That's how much I despise his way of coaching.

I used to think Torts was a good coach, I think he was a good coach at one time.

He's a dinosaur now though.

And since the Blue Jackets are not a good team at all, this will be his last job in the league IMO. He'll wash out like Ron Wilson or Mike Keenan did, if things go bad.

I don't see the Blue Jackets as a consistent playoff team, of course they can make it one of these years again. But they aren't a legit team to me. Worse teams make the playoffs every year, and I don't mean the same worse teams make the playoffs every year. Just that there's usually one worse team to make the playoffs every year.

I do like Torts sticking around the league because he makes me laugh. He's there for my amusement, at this point. Like a ****in clown, here to amuse me!
