I'm sorry if I'm late to the party, but have there been any new reports today backing up the Zajac rumor or is it still just hypos on the boards?

I mean, it's not like the story is that hard to write. GM would be interested in bringing player from former team to current team. Well, no ****. I'm sure Shero would love to have Crosby or Malkin too. It doesn't mean he's actively trying to trade for them.

I was expecting us to pick up either a current or former Penguin by this point, kind of surprised we haven't yet.
Well, Stempniak was a Penguin for 30 some games...so if we give him a contract, there you go.

In the other thread, it was mentioned that Merrill looked good this pre-season, and I agree. I hope to see good things and continued growth from him this season.
I think Merrill looked better than 'good' this season.
I think the key is this:
When he was paired with Severson, Severson immediately became the best defensive partner he's ever had, and Severson didn't play particularly well.
When Severson was paired with Merrill, that was the 'worst' defensive partner that he's ever had.
Merrill is the only one of the kids who hasn't been babied in either minutes nor partners.
Gelinas has had the worst partners, but the easiest minutes.
I think if Merrill or Gelinas had been paired with Greene, we would all be singing their praises.
My only nightmare scenario is if the change of systems makes our forwards corp's D zone coverage into nuttiness - or they just get caught all of the time, and we end up burning the kids.
The addition of Moore and his big left handed shot also make Gelly that much more expendable. You can move Gelly and still have Larrson-Greene Severson- Moore on the PP and be very good.
The question then becomes who is the 7th guy. Is it someone like Helgeson? Maybe its why a guy like Marc-Andre Gragnani is getting a longer look. As a guy they could use as a 7th Dman if they move Gelly to add a forward.
a D group that looks like this:
Greene Larrson
Merrill Severson
Moore Schlemko
Gragnani/Helgeson or some waiver pick up looks fine to me. It will still being some power on the PP even without Gelly.
