That was a really bad game and I was totally pissed watching it, but like the guys said after the game fatigue had a lot to do with the performance. They are human after all. Getting two points out of a game like this is really awesome after all. I am sure they'll have much better legs in Seattle with two days of rest.

It's a good thing Tatar was "fired up" like Dano said with that fracas he was involved in OT.

I think that gave him the extra energy needed to score that goal in the shootout.

So what are all of your feelings after you saw that it was a great play by Karlsson in tying up Bratt's stick?

Forceten, I legitimately thought Bratt did lose the handle there so I was like "oh no..." but wanted to see the replay if that was the case before I started to agree with all of you....Thank god for replays.

Bratt had a wide open net as he had Reimer turned inside-out and on the ground.

Just got to tip your hat to a good defensive play by a very good and talented defensive player.

Karlsson is probably the best defenseman in the league right now and no doubt saved the goal there. Having played that position for many years myself I know what a pain it is to defend from behind body position.

That said, Bratt had body position and could have outplayed the stick enough to tuck it into the open net. The play wasn't as much of a gimme due to Karlsson's stick work but he WAS behind him and it was a stick lift. Lean on it, baby!

I have to admit my favorite part of the game was Tatar going full Hulk and literally throwing the Shark down on the ice. You don't do that to goalies, you don't do that to us. We've been (rightfully) criticized for being a bit soft, but Tuna did what you should in that situation. Threw him on the ground like a camp pan with a grease fire and then pummeled him. Put a little tear in this old defenseman's eye.

I noticed Brylin is behind the bench now. I know he was originally supposed to literally be the “eyes in the sky” assistant coaching from the box. Good to see him in the trenches

Karlsson is probably the best defenseman in the league right now and no doubt saved the goal there. Having played that position for many years myself I know what a pain it is to defend from behind body position.

Oh, you're spot on. Bratt probably had huge googly eyes that he embarrassed Reimer so badly. I've been in that position too. And I was never the fastest skater so, um... I got caught a lot ... when you aren't expecting it it's easy to get your stick lifted.

Yeah.

Not often he was shown on camera during the games this season.

I think this may be the first time I've seen Sarge there behind the bench.

He was a bit motionless there with one finger to his ear(probably has an earpiece) and listening to...someone.

Karlsson is the worst best defenseman ever. I hate that player so much - he skates like a dream but he is an absolute team killer on D. He's like extreme Severson.

I'm a closet fan of the Sharks having lived in San Jose for 10 years, but he singlehandedly brought that franchise down.

I noticed him because he's now wearing glasses. Scott Stevens has been wearing them for a while now. Probably for most of his public appearances since retiring. For all I know Sarge has been wearing them for years now in the minors.

That day trip to San Jose worked out well. It had been raining for a week+ but we got a reprieve by the time we landed. Even got free street parking since it was a holiday. Although I was annoyed with myself, I dropped my phone as the third period was starting and it fell into the row in front of me. Took like 20 seconds to find/retrieve it and I totally missed Nico's goal.

I think I sold my buddy on doing another day trip in the future. There is something liberating about jumping on a plane with no luggage.

Trying to remember the last time I saw this team consistently manufacture wins from games they don’t play well in.

I’ve seen it before, but honestly I don’t think they’ve done it this much in one season since I properly became an aware fan after 2003 (eight going on nine years old), and it’s only half over!

I know it’s cliché, but good teams find ways to win when they’re not playing well. We used to find ways to lose, it truly feels like the organization is turning a corner.

They were old and near the end and probably shouldn't have re-signed him. They probably shouldn't have traded for him, but I get going all in one last time in 18-19, which was the year they got him.

But the team was headed for a crash like we were after 2012. Thornton was about to turn 40, Burns was approaching 35 and they already had a BUNCH of BAD contracts in Jones and Vlasic, who were already BAD players on BAD long term contracts by then. Karlsson isn't nearly as bad as them, but it was really time to bottom out.

And they even signed Kane long term.

And Hertl should have peaced out, but now he's signed until he's 36 on a team that's probably not gonna be all that good even by that time. If it took us 7 years to really start showing some signs, it should take them about 7 years, maybe give or take one.

They made the playoffs in the first year they had Karlsson, which was the season before his extension kicked in. They made the playoffs and the conference finals, despite Jones being TERRIBLE that year in both the regular season and playoffs. The wheels officially came off EARLY the next season. DeBoer was fired, Thornton was 40 years old, Burns was getting up there, Vlasic was already several years into a decline at that point and he's still signed through 2025. Couture is signed for 4 more years after this until he's like 37. Still a good player, but he turns 34 this year.

At least NJ's players were bad enough that Lamoriello only left the team with one terrible deal - your old pal Schneider - and in my view that deal shouldn't have been bad. He was on the young side for his hips to explode. If he stays healthy he would have been a good goalie though that term most likely. The change in the landscape to move bad deals has really hamstrung older teams.

Meh. That’s peanuts even now. Not a great contract but it worked out ok in the end for NJ. The team imploded and once new ownership accepted that it hasn’t mattered. If you have a plan and accept the inevitable you can always move forward. Look at Minnesota. They will escape their cap hell and emerge on the other side intact. In contrast Vancouver will never figure it out until their owner gets his head out of….the clouds.
