Well most, some were beating the he’s still hurt drum all along. I was skeptical they’d bring him back if he wasn’t healed and really they shouldn’t have but it does shed a new light on his awfulness coming ‘off’ IR
Schneids was a .920% goalie in the first 3 months of the season. And this was after he sustained his first LBI towards the end of October.
I don't believe for a second that he wasn't battling this nagging injury all along. I know @None Shall Pass has been most adamant about this since it occurred.
Hopefully he won't rush back to get into the regular season. We know Kinkaid is more than capable, so he can afford to take his time.
I thought he really looked hurt in game 3 (late in the game) and game 5 of the playoffs. His recovery time was very slow at that point. He played a hell of a three games, but his recovery time was very slow in those games. It didn’t look quite as bad in game 4. I remember pointing that out. It didn’t lead to any goals against, but it took a while for him to get up whenever he went on his back or belly.
Schneider had surgery on his left hip, something with a cartlidge, recovery expected to be 5 months.
As per nhl article
Just based on that alone (forget last season) I expect kk to split 50-50 or 60-40 (with the extra games going to whoever's on a hot streak)
They aren’t trading Kinkaid (although I think many here inflate his value). With the Schneider news I expect they will also sign a cheap goalie in addition as insurance.
Well that play towards the end of Game 3 couldn’t have helped but either way yeesh, forget about dealing Keith now, we’ll likely need him in October
Laco Tacos lol...that’s about the kind of insurance you’re talking about assuming Cory only misses a couple of weeks.
schneider's value is ridiculously low right now, and we need kinkaid...so i don't think a trade is happening
Fully willing to chalk up Schneider's horrible year to the injury - and we'll just move on.
Don't think it would've changed his lack of rebound control that he's had since day1 - just his ability to recover and get that second-chance after the bad rebound.
I rather him just been bad then chalk It up to injury b
You post too much30,000th post!!!!
Conclusion: Cory has to be considered a question mark for the start of next season. How much we will get from him at least at the start of the year is uncertain. Nor have I heard much about the exact nature of the injury or the surgery. Hip surgery is difficult (ask Alex Rodriguez) and groin injuries also tend to be chronic. Thus Kinkaid will be pencilled in as our # 1 for October on paper; plus Hynes and Shero will also decide who among the other goaltenders in the system is ready to be a solid # 2 for the first month or two. They may even bring in still more talent at the position. It will be interesting to watch what Shero does on this score.
To the need to acquire a legitimate first pairing left D man we now add the need to upgrade at least depth if not starting level talent at goalie.
I think if he has a pretty big year he can be a starter, which is contrary to my previous opinion.I don't think you need to upgrade the starting level goalies... a cory/kinkaid combo should work well (if cory can stop blowing games with soft goals and kk can play clutch like the 2nd half of the season).
Imo kk starts more at the beginning esp if the hip rehab takes longer then expected.
Also it's a big yr for kk as this will have a big role in him seriously being considered as a starter on an nhl team (which I believe he'll get several teams interested in him and will be a starter in 19).
I don’t think we can know what we will have from Cory post surgery, at his age, and given the arc of his performance over the past several seasons. The ideal is he returns to a premier baseline. That’s no more than 50 / 50 at most. The worst scenarios have him pretty much done. Lots of room in betweeen. 5 months of recovery take him into 2018 - 19 regular season.I don't think you need to upgrade the starting level goalies... a cory/kinkaid combo should work well (if cory can stop blowing games with soft goals and kk can play clutch like the 2nd half of the season).

I just that if that happens though, he'll be a starter on rebuilding team or a team with another guy that's been a backup and he edges him out. Think like Vancouver of this year, with Markstrom and Nilsson.
Maybe a middling playoff team signs him as part of a tandem and he winds up winning the job. Think a team like Philly of this year.

Kinkaid looks like he can be a solid 1A/1B goalie.
I'm not sure I'd ever trust him to be a 60+ start goalie just yet, but he can make a strong case for that depending on how he follows up next year.
Devils probably start off next year with the job up for grabs Assuming both goalies stay healthy, they then make a decision on who they are sticking with at some point in the season and deal the other goaltender.
