Schneider just lost his starting job to Kinkaid.

I’m really happy for Keith, but at the same time, you have to look at this as a major embarrassment for Schneider, especially with his contract.

He is still going to be the starter in camp next year. They are going to expect him to bounce back, and Hynes has said as much. In fact he thinks Cory is close to getting back on track.

Hynes has buried his goalies before so there isn’t much reason for him to say positive things about Cory to the press if he didn’t mean it.

For now that it is absolutely Keith’s cage for the remainder of the season, and he is making a case to possible be considering a 1B next season even if Cory rebounds.

The earliest I would even consider giving Cory another game is the Montreal game, and even that really depends on how the week goes.

I mean Cory-Keith next year could make Marty-Cory from 2014 look like child's play in terms of contreversy and palace intrigue. If Keith leads the team to the playoffs he'd have every right to get the #1 job next year or at least compete for it in camp, but it's near impossible to bench a guy with Cory's contract term.

Since Schneider injured his groin on January 27th, only two goalies have won more games than Keith Kinkaid: Pekka Rinne and Marc-Andre Fleury.

By descending wins,

1. Rinne, 16
2. Fleury, 15
3. Kinkaid, 14
4. Dubnyk, 14
5. Jones, 14
6. Vasilevsky, 13
7. Bobrovsky, 12
8. Gibson, 12
9. Rask, 12
10. Hellebuyck, 12

The Habs game is quite honestly the ONLY GAME where I think Cory could play and NOT f--- up. But again....points are at a premium and as long as Florida keeps getting 2 points, we can't risk it.

Cory is not going anywhere. The team has too much invested in him to trade him while his value is at it's lowest. Plus it's not like he's 37 and there is no hope of him ever bouncing back. If he's bad again next year then you worry about trying to make him disappear.

I think kk has at least earned more of an even split at the start of next season... take it from there and see how the season goes. If cs still plays below avg, and kk plays like he is now, you try to unload him to a team looking for a goalie, ie islanders

Just goes to show how underwhelming Cory has been. Age and contracts also play a role here.

Yea, while Cory has been really underwhelimg to just flat out horrible for two seasons now, the only goalie worse than him in the NHL right now is Darling, who we should not be picking up.

Do you know how much Darling is paid? Isn't he under contract for 3 more years (one fewer than Cory) @$4 million per year?

Darling looks to have a way too high percentage of body fat, out of shape, can't move from to post to post, leaks like a an old clunky junkmobile with a leaky sunroof, and he's not even 3 years younger than Cory and I think he gets paid like $4 million a year? To have the worst season a goalie that wasn't 100 years old has had in the modern era? And I don't even think 2011-2012 Roloson was much worse than this.

Yeah, I don't think Cory is returning to the .920% days, but Darling is a disgrace to the position.

Cory is signed through 21-22, Darling is signed 20-21.

This is just such an asinine thing though. Trading him for Scott Darling? Come on.

That's what I thought. One fewer year than Cory and still at $4 million, which is only 2 less than Cory? He's still signed at 2/3rd's of Cory's yearly salary.

I seriously thought that was a sarcastic post.

Like you said above, are the odds of Schneider going back to the .920? Probably not but I’d rather have him over Darling and a 2nd. I still don’t think Cory is finished. I question is health and the fact that he’s got to have almost no confidence in his game at this point. We WILL need him at some point this season.

cory was never anything special. lou was in love with him for obvious reasons.

at the very least hes an asset we can trade. philly is doing what we should be doing. rolling with two. pulling when you need to pull.

The only reason why Cory will be the starter beginning of next year it's because of his contract. The pressure will be on him to take the chance and run away with it.

Coaching staff also still has faith he will turn it around.

If we had more games left they would be giving him more starts to play through this.

Cory was excellent his first three years here, come on.

Philly isn’t doing this by a plan. They’re doing this because their goalies suck and they have to do it.

They also don't have much of a choice
His contract still has 4 years left starting next year so they will obviously try to put him back in the right track. And I also think he deserves it too.

i dont think he was all that great. i think we had a decent d core that was fading. and he benefited. guys like murray, fluery, rinne, vas, all put up numbers with O oriented teams. if he cant hack it there might be a problem. we dont rely on D anymore.

its tough to accept i get that but if cory cant hang he cant hang. ship him to the sens with a first rounder and a prospect for karlsson. he will flourish there.

You’re talking as if I’m some sort of child who is watching an idol play longer than he should. We already did that. Cory was never on that level but to dismiss him now is revisionistic because you’re ignoring the fact that was for the first three years a very good goaltender.
