The Devils likely have three trades remaining:

Palmieri + 2021 5th round pick to Boston for David Backes + Urho Vaakanainen + 2020 1st round pick + 2020 2nd round pick + 2021 2nd round pick + 2021 3rd round pick

Vatanen to Carolina for 2020 1st round pick

Simmonds to Vancouver for Baertschi + 2021 2nd round pick

no way you’re getting that much for Palmieri.

Well you can take Pelletier if you view him higher, but yeah im not sure on Nj's needs? Maybe subtract the last 1st and do both Vali and Pell?
The problem is Lucic and his NMC. Toxic in regards to the expansion draft. Toronto paid a 1st to dump 6m for 1yr. Do the math.

not that hefty. You’re going to be dissapointed.

Market price for Backes has been set by Marleau trade to Carolina.

Boston will need to give up their first round pick to get Backes off the team.

If they want Palmieri then they are going to find another first rounder and a top prospect for Palmieri. Palms is not going to be traded for a deal any less than what Devils got for Coleman.

The team is not obligated to buy out Backes and he can be LTIRd eventually. Marleau was a guarantee to be a cash buy out and 6.25 million cap hit no matter what because of the NMC and 35+ contract.

You cant say he can be LTIR eventually when he is healthy. If he could be put on LTIR today, Boston wouldnt have a pressing cap issue.

You can do also the math like this:
Salary in: 4.65m/yr
Salary out: 6m/yr
Net Salary: -1.35m/yr

The term is identically. So Coleman at 1.8m or Palmieri at -1.35m. Even if you consider Coleman the superior player you would expect more than a 1st and Foote like prospect from the Devils end. I consider the asking price of Bet the Over too rich, but not out of the world. Vaakanainen, 1st and 2nd is a realistic ask. May even add something conditional, if Boston makes it back to the SCF.

I don't believe it'll be in this years draft if so.

The Gm who made that deal will more than likely will be unemployed in the very near future. Not saying that won't be what it'll cost to dump Backes, but Im sure Sweeney is smart enough not to deal this years first in a very deep draft year.

The leagues GM's are much brighter than to allow whatever Dubas does to sets the standards for other GMs around the league.
