the bolded part is obviously the slump, yes? A 70ish point player is gonna have stretches in a season where they play well above a 70pt pace and stretches where they’re well below. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t a slump.

Am i wrong in assuming that the expectations for Bratt are that he’s something more than a 65-75 point winger? I kinda thought it was a given that he should be at 80-90 points throughout his prime but maybe i’m reading the wrong. Hopefully the Devils figure out their power play next year and everyone has an offensive explosion and this discussion is moot.

He didn’t have a good second half season, it wasn’t just the points, his underlying numbers weren’t great either.

I’m not sure why it happened and I’m not going to guess. He’s still worth his contract.

It’s not that complicated for me.

It all went south after he met up with that Bratt fan from Twitter/Facebook/wherever he was from.

i fully agree with all of this, and if anything, the rough patch is a positive sign. If you’re looking for signs that he has room to grow and another gear to hit, it’s not hard to find them.

The scary thing is Jack also went through a similar stretch of poor underlying numbers and “only” playing at an 80ish point pace. It’s scary to think what they could be doing together in a couple years (my gut says it might be as early as a few months from now but we’ll see!).

My thought is he started to struggle a bit once they started to discuss this new deal. Bratt seems like a thoughtful kid. I don’t doubt it weighed on him. My guess is he will take a nice step forward in his all around game now. I’m excited for him.

Maybe the whole Contract Drama took as much a toll on him mentally as it did on us.

Google-Translate is kind of brutal but here it is....lol :

It has been a long process.

But a two-year contract and a one-year contract later, he stands here now with a newly written and well-paid eight-year contract with the New Jersey Devils - with an annual salary rate hit of 7.875 million dollars per season, which is about 670 million kroner in total.

Jesper Bratt signed just over a week ago.

- "Great fun, super fun that it was finally done. It has been a long way from the first game in the Devils to the situation you are in now, but everything comes from extremely hard work and you have trusted the process. It has been the goal from the start to play here for a long time and continue to build on the young, skilled team we have. Hopefully, that dent will be lifted during the course of the contract", says Bratt to HockeyNews.se.

- "Staying at the Devils and signing a long contract means a lot to me. The chance to lift that trophy is extremely high in our organization and I want to be part of that journey."

Despite the fact that the ink has barely had time to dry on the new agreement, it is not about a longer holiday.

That part has already been completed and Bratt is fully focused on becoming a better hockey player for the 2023/24 season.

- "I got my vacation for this year and I took it right after the season. Now the focus will be mostly on physics and focus on ice and hanging out with the family here in Sweden and making the most of it as much as you can. Pavel Zacha is one of my best friends who is getting married this summer, so there will be a little bit of that, but then it's just about getting better", says Bratt.

How do you feel about Vegas winning?
- "They play so fantastically well the whole team from the first chain to the fourth chain and the goalkeeper who had to jump in when injured. A team machine through and through that deserved to win", says Bratt, who of course took part in William Karlsson's victory speech and he is impressed by his compatriot on the other side of the USA.

- "It was fun to see, I hope I myself get to stand there one day and give a speech like that and have some people laughing at me for it too. He is an extremely big factor in Vegas winning and it's fun to see a Swede mean so much to a team."

When HockeyNews.se meets Bratt, he has been on the ice in Stockholm with, among others, Leo Carlsson, who is preparing for the NHL draft in a couple of days.

- "It was fun to see him. I have read a lot about him and seen what a great season he had in the SHL and I followed a bit during the WC and am impressed with the way he plays. It will be fun to follow his journey here this summer and beyond"

Thanks for sharing! Almost screamed cause I thought it was the Timo contract announcement, but the Bratt content was worth it lol.

Good for him not neglecting his studies! I wonder if he will spend part of the summer at the Large Hadron Collider. Maybe Hischier can visit him there.

So last night I tried to look into what the reaction was when the Devils drafted Bratt and found out NHL Network was on a commercial break when we picked him. They didn't even acknowledge him when they came back from the break.

If you pause it at 2:18:20, you'll see on the left side of the BLURRY POOR-QUALITY 360p Vid, Jesper's name.

Talk about Mr. Irrelevant.

They did him dirty there with the stupid commercials. LOL.

I'm just glad this is over.

People were really starting to turn on him, both in the playoffs and between the ending of the playoffs until he was actually signed. I think a lot of it was irrational and a reaction/fear of his agent dragging things out again. And he took some shit for that.

That said, I can understand being skeptical on things being smooth after the way his last two contracts went.

I'm just glad he's re-signed because that means that certain Anti-Bratt posters did not get their wish of Bratt being gone just because.

You know who you are. GET REK'D!
