It will be a race to the bottom between LA, DET, ANA, and NJ. I think EDM and VAN are too good to fail completely down the stretch while OTT is in a class of futility all its own. Frankly, LA should be better than they are and so should DET and ANA. Post TDL with all its injuries and selling the Devils should be second from the bottom, but the AHL lineup is playing hard and the goalies who both have something to prove are giving the team some confidence. Should be a bumpy ride to the draft lottery. Hopefully Hall's ping pong ball luck works this season as well.

A first or second round pick would be absolutely huge for the Devils, there's no question. Both Hughes and Kakko will be impact NHL-ers next year. This would be a turbo boost for Shero's team-building plans.

A first line of Hall-Nico-Palmieri and a second line of Bratt-Hughes-?? would likely lead Shero to jump through hoops to acquire a big-time RW for that second line. Kakko on that second line with Bratt would certainly have Shero looking low and high for a more established second-line C.

That being said, you can't pin your hopes on a lottery win. Even with Taylor Hall on your team.

If Hall doesn’t get NJ a lottery win all my hopes will be dashed and I will blame you. Ok maybe I’ll blame Hall.

The Devils are now 5 points behind Edmonton and Vancouver, with Hall out for the season and a line-up loaded with prospects and AHL-ers. Though of course everyone wants a lottery win, I think we can assume with some confidence that the Devils will be picking in the top 7. Even after the obvious top 2 of Hughes and Kakko, the top 7 is, in my estimation, extremely strong this year.

1 C Hughes
2 W Kakko
3 LD Byram
4 C Cozens
5 W Podkolzin
6 C Turcotte
7 C Zegras

How do you guys feel about dach? He had an absolute amazing start, cold stretch in the middle(supposedly injured) and he’s been heating up again

Care to elaborate why?

i just don’t want him at 5, for example, when there are others available that check off more boxes. i’d like to stay consistent with how we’ve been building, and in the (limited) footage i’ve seen he seems a bit slower than i’d like with a top 5 pick. he also doesn’t seem to know how to use his size to his advantage.

again, i haven’t watched him play as much as i’ve seen cozens for example so i could be wrong...but if his best selling point is his hands, i’d rather target someone else

I feel like we will pick 5th unless the lotto goes well or really badly.

That sounds like a prime spot in this draft. Plenty of good choices at 5 according to STI. I’d take that now if it was offered. Maybe Byram is still there and they can choose between Byram and whatever forward they have as BPA.

4 or 5 would be fine I believe as well. I think the combined odds are high that we either get pushed back or move up though.

Or Shero gives Zacha the chance to play with Kakko and see what it can do for his development.

After Hughes and Kakko, pick the BPA.

I don't care who it is.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say Taylor "Lucky Rabbit's Foot" Hall will come through for us again...and we'll end up with either the #2 or the #1 pick. :DD:DD:DD:DD

Dach is my 10th ranked player in the 2019 draft. Top-end passing, size/strength, character, two-way acumen, vision but lacks speed and shot. He's going to be a heck of a player, but at C I have him below Hughes/Cozens/Turcotte/Zegras and about even with Newhook.

nico is out with an upper body injury. other than the rags, our next 4 look bad, so we may move up to 3rd. but 4th is the worst spot to be in? is that true?

I wouldn't say 4th is the worst spot to pick in, it's just an awkward spot since there is a large percentage of probability that you will move down two spots, then again, you have a 50% chance of picking out of the top three if you're in dead last.

I'll be happy the lower we go. I would like to see at least LA pass us.
