Coach speak.

Nico had by far the most matchups, McLeod had the 2nd most, with 6 defensive zone face offs(and no ozone faceoffs) vs Crosby. Together these guys combined for 10:40 of toi.

Gauthier and Mercer played a bit over a minute each vs Crosby's line.

That is absolutely matching up.

Nico had 10 draws against Crosby. Nico won 7, Mercer had two against. Crosby. For now NJ is giving Nico the heavy lifting which frees up Mercer.

McLeod too. 6 faceoffs vs Crosby, all in the d-zone. Not a ton of minutes for McLeod tonight, either against Crosby or overall, but just straight difficult minutes.

Loved it.
Love eating crow on Johnson.
Loved Graves's stickework all game.
Loved Studenic's game.
Loved zachas first period stretch passes.
Loved Bernie's work all game. Solid.

Every player deserves some sort of accolade, even Tatar with his backhand and Subban on his stomach in the crease.

Full, complete, everyone skating, puckbsttlewinning, 60 minutes of fun.

Please stop hitting Nico with shots.

That is all.

You say that but I never paid attention to any of that, only that he wasn't contributing and was playing horribly.

This season with none of the excuses, he's showing me something and it's a very good something.

I hope he keeps it up.

The thing for me is how bad he looks at times. There was a shift there where he gave the puck away like four times in a row, fell over, mishandled a pass etc... Then he gets some space and time and makes a really good play.

I'm beginning to think it is all space and time with him...that in traffic he gets manhandled and coughs up pucks or makes bad decisions. Put him out there with fast creative guys the other team needs to respect (like Matthews or bratt/mercer) and you create a dangerous offensive player.

He's already exceeded any expectations I had.

Bernier is playing great hockey for us so far and I even forgot Blackwood was on IR. Bratt had a good game and deked the crap out of Jarry on that penalty shot.

The fact that Crosby actually got called for that with 3 minutes left in a tie game of the 3rd period made it even sweeter!

Edit: Crosby with another assist on the Vesey goal as well… he’s my 3rd star, can we add him in the poll?

New Jersey(No Fanz!)
Imagine typing this after a win when the guy scores the GWG. What a joke.

Also imagine another person typing that he was LUCKY and that another goaltender stops that ( JrFischer54 ).... I mean..SERIOUSLY? :shakehead

This is what Bratt has always been...regular as clockwork. Struggles for two-three weeks, gets the cattle prod up his fanny then goes on a scoring binge, then struggles again, has to get benched/yelled at, wash, rinse, repeat.

Bratt last season went 6 pts in 10 games, 5 pts in 10 games, 8 pts in 10 games, 8 pts in 10 games, 3 pts in 6 games. That is as consistent scoring you're going to get out of any non star. He's going to remain underrated and people will continue to say dumb shit like this unless he somehow persuades coaches to give him the ice time he deserves and his raw pt totals finally match his scoring rates

Yeah I don't really get what NJDevs is talking about.

I mean...Bratt's slow starts have been at the start of the season due to particular factors (contract disputes, etc.).

Once he got going, he really got going and kept on going so I don't understand this hot-and-cold comparison he's making.

The problem with Hischier is, that he is obviously the new Zajac. I don‘t understand why the devils put him in this role and I don‘t know why Hischier isn‘t doing something against it. he isn‘t that aggressive, does not shoot the puck enough and isn‘t as dangerous as he was at the beginning of his career. He seems rather to regress than to progress in his development. Sad.

I fell asleep around 8 I think and didn't wake up until 6:00 am.

I woke up checked my phone and there was text from my wife with a video of Jesper Bratt taking a penalty shot . It said "this and Vesey with a shorthanded goal Devils win 4-2"

Yes to all of this. And the bolded especially! Can our teamstop seeing Nico as a Target with his back when shooting the puck....

I think, this game, he escaped with nothing too serious, but it could be worse!

More often than not fan bases dread having their teams go on the road.

Then it dawned on me, the Devils are mysteriously terrible at home!? I have a theory it’s due to poor ice quality.

Dougie has already mentioned during one of his interviews the Pru Center ice hasn't been great.
