Graves and Severson with over 5 minutes shorthanded each, big reason the PK was 5/5

I still can't believe we got Graves for a 2nd round pick and Maltsev. I hadn't watched much of him on the Avs but did he really elevate his play here, perhaps being traded lit a fire under him?

I'm in same boat, barely knew much about him before he came here, but he is really good back there. Makes really good use of his size behind and around the net. Him and Dougie make a good pairing.

Im going to eventually come across as a Bratt hater lmao (only to my friends and family!)

But his two points arent how I wanted to see them; 5v5 where he controls the play, like he can do when he tries. His assist was a goal off a leg where he should have passed back to Mercer wide open, and the penalty shot well... it shouldnt have been one but we all know hes good in the shootout.

Ill say he had a good game as I didnt notice him floating and he handled the puck well; but it still wasnt to par of what I need to see from him. His rookie year was so stellar that its incredibly disappointing seeing him just now get his first points game 6; but better late than never I suppose

Ill give him second star, Bernier first and Vesey third

NHL player gets two points, it's considered a GOOD NIGHT.

Doesn't matter nor should it HOW he gets the 2 points.

I didn't think the PK was all that good, Bernier was. Gave up the seam all night.

They may not have had sustained possessions, but Nico had a nice little one on one, Tatar had a break, and Tatar also had a shot off the post(pretty sure that was 5v5).

Yep they had some counter attack chances, but not the sustained stuff tonight. Zacha looked pretty good overall (minus him falling over, lol) and saved a freaking goal chance also on the backheck or some defensive play. Nico had a couple tight plays in but the puck got poked away. Nico still looks a little slower than usual, though.

Please team come back home and keep the momentum going...... don't lay an egg tomorrow....

Plus this win was huge to keep on track with rest of the Metro high fliers. We got some catchup in games to do, and this really helped us so if they can sustain another win we can feel much better going into November....

Ruff just said they weren't worried about matching up lines
Coach speak.

Nico had by far the most matchups, McLeod had the 2nd most, with 6 defensive zone face offs(and no ozone faceoffs) vs Crosby. Together these guys combined for 10:40 of toi.

Gauthier and Mercer played a bit over a minute each vs Crosby's line.

That is absolutely matching up.

The PK was very good. Bernier was also good.

I’m with JMac, the PK wasn’t very good.

The PK is good at keeping the puck out of dangerous spots and shots….until it isn’t. Pitts blew a bunch of good chances that on a normal night would have yielded some goals.

The PK is similar to ES where players are getting confused about when to switch from man to zone, where they’re covering, and end up protecting empty space or aggressively double teaming guys at a not advantageous time.

Guys are still developing chemistry so I’m hoping the confusion fades over time.

Imagine typing this after a win when the guy scores the GWG. What a joke.

Some fun PK #'s.

Graves, Sev's, Vesey, Stud's, Mcleod and Hamilton were all at 50% or better in terms of on ice shots for percentage.

Stud's was 4-0 in terms of on ice shots for on the PK.

Vesey had 4 pk sog's.

Graves has looked very good so far this year. I was a little concerned with how A s fans were saying he is an average 2nd pairing D . I think that was mostly using him as the whipping boy for the Avs losing in the playoffs last year ? Or sour that their cap crunch made it so they could not afford him so they made it seem like he wasn’t wanted anyways? Not sure but I’m glad he is a Devil.

Its sooo refreshing having good goaltending . No way we win that game with Wedgewood in net.

Not sure if it is because he is banged up, but Nico was 5th in terms of fwd PK toi.

Zacha only played 19 seconds.

Even McLeod was down the list a little. 4th with 2:13

Vesey, Gauthier, and Stud's were the top 3.

I could understand having an issue with his game if he was bad outside of the points. Then you could say something like "the points are nice but they won't sustain if keeps playing poorly or won't matter if he gives up a ton on the other end". Like Jack's first game of the year for example. The goals were great but he had to be much better still. That of course wasn't the case here and Bratt was fine outside of the pts so he's bitching just to bitch.

I thought we did a much better job pressuring the puck, getting clears and actually created chances.

I don't think creating chances is typically an important part of a good PK, and you certainly won't get that on a consistent basis, but when you get as many chances as we did tonight, and outscore the opponent to boot, that's a good night.

I've been talking about the importance of faceoffs on the PK, and tonight, at least at 4v5, we were 0-4. Gauthier was 0-3, and he was the only fwd who was hemmed in defensively. No issue with Nico being down the pk toi list, but McLeod should be up at the top. Vesey made a strong case for that tonight as well. And Stud's has nice #'s in his limited minutes too.

Yeah, and look, it took Bratt a number of games to get the monkey off his back (tonight).... Nico will be ok....

This is what Bratt has always been...regular as clockwork. Struggles for two-three weeks, gets the cattle prod up his fanny then goes on a scoring binge, then struggles again, has to get benched/yelled at, wash, rinse, repeat.

Bratt last season went 6 pts in 10 games, 5 pts in 10 games, 8 pts in 10 games, 8 pts in 10 games, 3 pts in 6 games. That is as consistent scoring you're going to get out of any non star. He's going to remain underrated and people will continue to say dumb shit like this unless he somehow persuades coaches to give him the ice time he deserves and his raw pt totals finally match his scoring rates
