I'm as big a Bratt stan as anybody but that was a weak game from the top 6, especially 63. Nico got out-muscled with no place to go with the puck, both Bratt and Zacha had dumb turnovers at both blue lines. I'm sure Jack's line got their shots but they looked out of sync as well. Experience and strength will help with 50/50 battles but agree with Ruff on puck management. This group wants to learn things the hard way it seems.

Anyway, no need to get riled up over garbage time, I guess. But going forward, teams like the Isles will have the kryptonite if we don't get better in these areas.

Give the Isles some credit for it. If they are one hundred percent focused and playing their game, they will make a lot of top lines and players look like that.

Again just like the Bruins game a few days ago, last night was a reminder there’s still a long way to go before we can compete with good teams that are motivated.

Sorry but disagree. We can compete with them, and beat them when they are skating hard too. This team will have a good year next year.

Yeah, I’m never understand why our wins often don’t count for much for us (they weren’t even trying!) while every loss is true reckoning of our essential horribleness though even top teams have off nights where they get scored on a bunch. Particularly this grueling season.

We have holes to fill and issues but our win on Thursday or going 5-2-1 against the Bruins isn’t imaginary and shouldn’t be inexplicably discounted. I don’t get why people want to be negative about the wins too. We beat both these teams.

Bratt might be the most underrated playmaker in the entire league.

And the most overrated player in HF Boards history.

How is it few others notice for all his motion and flare he rarely accomplishes anything nor emerges with the puck in one on one situations?

Nor that for all his speed he rarely recaptures the puck in the neutral zone nor his own end (something most of the other speed forwards on the Devils do routinely, particularly Jack Hughes, who has the same disadvantages in terms of size and strength)?

This is where boxcar numbers fool people. Boqvist is 7th on the team in points/60 for forwards and is 191st in the league in points/60 among forwards with 100 or more minutes. He's scored just fine. He just hasn't played any minutes really at all. But Ruff is starting to trust him more.

Have to believe he has a full-time role next season; particularly with a full summer of development.

I was pretty convinced Boqvist had no future on the team but he should be back next year for sure and get every chance to carve out a role in training camp. Even if he ends up as the 5C who can play on the wing that's gonna be valuable to NJ.
Agree, I think Boq has had a pretty solid season, not spectacular, but something for sure. He'll have to build upon it next year, but early in this season, I wasn't sure what place he had in the organization.

Foote Zacha Boq were really good in that 3rd period, for what that is worth.

We didn’t bring our A lineup or our A game last night. I expect them to be better but we can be much more competitive than we were yesterday. We are playing out the string now but it’s been a nice little end of season stretch.

You figure that NJ would want some higher end wingers for Jack. I think Boquist between Shara and Kuokkanen might work. Against middle six or bottom six competition they could work once Boquist adapts his game a bit.
Ideal world stuff here though.

Getting proven top 6 wingers around Jack is easier said then done. Especially if you are not looking to overpay and/or long term.

Also the concern that you bring in a proven guy, and then they fall flat on Jack's wing, ala Palm's. Or Mojo, or Johnsson.

I'm staying the course, staying patient, crossing fingers on Shara, Foote, Holtz.

@NJDevs26 , this guy is something else :

And the most overrated player in HF Boards history.

According to you and Bob (and Tony Piscotta wherever he is), that is.

You three are alone on an island on this opinion. (probably because you three are 100% wrong on your take)

This comment right here is why people don't take you seriously. "rarely accomplishes anything"?

Nor that for all his speed he rarely recaptures the puck in the neutral zone nor his own end (something most of the other speed forwards on the Devils do routinely, particularly Jack Hughes, who has the same disadvantages in terms of size and strength)?

Pfft. "rarely recaptures the puck" :biglaugh:

You want people to praise your boy McLeod (and Bastian) so damn hard but you're pissed when the attention is given to Bratt. #UJelly

THAT is the bottom line here.

I don’t disagree. I was thinking more in terms of a bridge winger or two in the flat cap environment to bridge to the younger guys. To keep the seat warm for Foote Holtz etc. I just think that Shara and Kuokkanen would be great against a slightly lesser competition.
