I don't have the time to do the math, but how much bigger and how much younger did they get after today including Zacha and omitting Gionta and Tootoo, who won't be here next year ?

It's really incredible. Taylor Hall has more talent than our entire bottom 6 combined last season. And he has the 5 on 5 production to prove it.

AHL depth...MacWilliam is weird though. Doesn't seem like a Shero guy?

Devils got older today with Lovejoy and Fiddler too. Hahaha.

Devils really didn't get much younger so far this off-season, they signed 2 30+ year old guys and Hall is a year older than Larsson.

Bennett replaces a guy like Tootoo/Gionta in age.

Ruutu is about the same as Lovejoy.

Probably stayed the same, if not got slightly older. By training camp, I would imagine it's much younger last year with Santini, Helgeson, Zacha, Boucher, and probably another youngster on the team.

Last year was really the get younger year. Between two seasons and last season we shed a **** ton of age.

The goal was just to keep it that way and we mostly did.

Addition by subtraction:

Out: Elias (40), Ruutu (33), Gionta (33), Tootoo (33), Schlemko (29)

Brought in Bennett (24), we also have Zacha (19) and Santini (21) looking like pretty sure bets to make the team.

I don't really care about Fiddler who is a one-year stop gap to get rid of atrocious Giotna, and though Lovejoy at 32 is an elder statesman on our D it's nowhere close to being washed up.

30.27 in 2014-15 (oldest)
27.67 last year (middle of the pack)

According to my calculations on generalfanager:

26.47 this year makes us the youngest in the league.

That's incredible, oldest to youngest in two years. It needed to happen.

Maybe people will finally stop making bad old age jokes about us.

Can't believe how young this team got in a year. Palmieri+Hall are the two top 3 players that we were saying a year ago we desperately needed. Henrique has finally broken out into a player who is a solid top 6 guy and we're adding a possibly key top 6 cog in Zacha. That's 4 forwards under 26 who can be very good top 6 players. The only guy we're missing IMO is a #1C but I don't think we truly need one if we have solid wingers. Henrique led that 2012 team.

We're not sure that Elias isn't coming back, and Fiddler still counts. I agree that the team is getting younger in general.

Definitely looking up for us Devils fans. :)

I'm very high on Zacha, I'm sure everyone on here knows that by now, but history shows 6th overall picks are at the very least solid NHL players. It isn't as imperative now that he be a superstar (even though I really believe he can be).

It's amazing, a year and a half ago Matt Lorito came into the Albany Devils and became my next greatest hope. I thought, "look at this guy, he's got skills and he can make plays! Save us!"

How quickly things can change!

New Jersey: where the NHL players go to retire!

New Jersey: Florida for NHL players!

Those two were kind of funny though, at least two years ago they were.

Some perspective on Severson and what could be in store. Both Severson and Tyson Barrie are right shot d men from D factory Kelowna. They were even teammates for a year or so despite the age difference. Severson just finished his age 21 season with 21 points and very good possession numbers. He played two games in the AHL prior to this season. Barrie spent 38 games in the AHL his age 21 season after spending 49 games there the year before. He put up 13 points in 32 NHL games that year. The following shows how far ahead Severson's offensive game is at the same age as shown here with possession relatively equal http://public.tableau.com/shared/C8X3HFPBX?:display_count=yes

Barrie took a huge leap in his next season and I'm expecting the same from Severson

As of now...

Hall Henrique Bennett
Cammalleri Zajac Palmieri
Boucher Zacha/Blandisi DSP
Josefson Fiddler Kalinin
Pietla JQ Lappin Wood

Greene Severson
Moore Lovejoy
Merrill Santini
Helgeson Mozik
Avuitu Jacobs

Schneider
Wedgewood Kinkaid

Future: McLeod White Speers Blackwood Gignac Bastian

I am just wondering, with a whopping .36 PPG at the NHL level and a combined 79 pts in 173 games in professional hockey, why are some fans slotting Bennett in the #1 RW spot?

Surprised you guys closed the Taylor Hall thread, that's the offseason acquisition of the year. It will likely go down in history as the turning point in Devils hockey post Stevens/Brodeur era.
