Datsyuk should just have surgery if that's what it's gonna take, 2 months of being "day- to-day" with a sore knee is just silly.

Unless the matchups change, and I doubt they will, the Kid line is really the 4th line. They get far and away the easiest minutes on the entire team both in terms of quality of opposition and offensive zone faceoffs. They kill those minutes, though, so that's still an advantage for the Wings.

They also have 3 really good wingers in the top 6 in Alfie, Franzen and Nyquist and middle forwards in Helm, Abdelkader and Miller that can hold their own defensively. They could be ok based on all that, but missing your top 3 centers is usually nearly impossible to overcome especially when your defenseman don't move the puck that well on the back end. It'll be a good test for Anderrsson, though.

Yet for a week or so pre-Olympics and the first game back they got the 2nd most even strength minutes.

Babs puts them in advantageous situations, as he should, but 4th lines don't get the kind of even strength minutes they've recently been getting.

it is pretty odd that a guy can have a setback that requires more tests after so many days of what he said were good practices and feeling great

Some inflammation there...

#RedWIngs F Stephen Weiss (groin) has had setback, deemed inflammation, on medication. Will be re-evaluated in a few days.

But three different doctors have said that surgery is not needed...

Helene St. James ‏@HeleneStJames

Per Ken Holland, #RedWings F Pavel Datsyuk (inflamed knee) to see 4th doctor Wednesday. So far, 3/3 have ruled out need for surgery.

might have been nice to follow up on if the doctors agreed on what was causing the inflammation. Three docs agreeing surgery isn't necessary is nice, but I take it with a grain of salt if none of them can agree on what's causing it in the first place.
