For Calgary:

Western Conference First Round: (P2) Edmonton Oilers 3 v. (P3) Calgary Flames 4
Oilers take 2-0 and 3-1 series leads before the Flames win games 5, 6, and 7 (with game 6 on home ice in 3OT) to win the series.

Western Conference Second Round: (P3) Calgary Flames 4 v. (W2) Vancouver Canucks 1
Canucks, fresh off an upset over San Jose, aren't able to extend the magic. Flames win 1 & 2 at home, Canucks win game three, Flames win four and five. Three of the four Flames wins are in overtime, including game seven.

Western Conference Final: (C1) Chicago Blackhawks 2 v. (P3) Calgary Flames 4

Blackhawks, returned to form, cruise through first two rounds. Series split through four games, Flames take games 5 & 6 in OT to win the series. Rematch of 2009 WCQF, ten years later.

Stanley Cup Final: (A1) Tampa Bay Lightning 3 v. (P3) Calgary Flames 4

Fifteen years after the Lightning beat the Flames (allegedly), no road team wins until game seven, when the Flames win in double overtime off Sam Bennett's skate.
Nice.

where you could guarantee the outcome of every 7 game series, what path to the Cup (constrained by current NHL playoff rules and divisional/conference compositions) would you design for your team for next year (2019)?

Honestly, I don't see any fun at all in being a guaranteed winner. This scenario would kill hockey for me. But for the sake of an answer, a dream 2019 run would be to sweep LA, then sweep San Jose, then sweep Nashville, and then sweep Detroit. Each Game 4 would end in the first OT period.

still trying to figure out if its more perfect for the caps to just beat the pens or have someone else do it for them

The dream run for the Flyers:

Seeded against Washington Rd. 1 - 4-1 Philadelphia. Pittsburgh beats Columbus, New Jersey beats Tampa, Toronto beats Boston. Nashville, Winnipeg, Vegas, and San Jose move on in the West.
Philadelphia/Pittsburgh: 4-0 Philadelphia. 4 shutouts, every game at least 5-0. New Jersey beats Toronto. Winnipeg and San Jose move on.
Philadelphia/New Jersey: 4-0 Philadelphia. Hischier held scoreless, Patrick scores all 4 game winners. Winnipeg moves on, Hellebuyck lost for the season in game 7; the injury will not put his next season in jeopardy.
Philadelphia/Winnipeg: 4-3 Philadelphia. Mason plays well, wins a couple 3-2 games, but the Flyers win out in the end. Game 7 winning goal by Claude Giroux, from Sean Couturier and Ivan Provorov.

Caps beating the Pens in game 7 at home in the second round.

It is the only way for them to get redemption

How would it go to game seven when you have already won games 1,2,4,5

LAs 2012 was probably ideal cause they were under dog every round

Would love the Canucks next year to SQUEEK into the playoffs and beat out Stlouis Winnipeg and Dallas before beating Montreal for the Cup. That would be sweeter then sugar

2009 Pens run was close to perfect ...but the Canes beat the Bruins to go to the ECF.

Would have been

1st round - Flyers
2nd round - Capitals
ECF - Bruins ( Canes instead)
Finals - Redwings

2013 already... maybe could of been more perfect if the Wild were still the historical North Stars

In a vacuum, without things as they stand now:

Round 1- The Rangers sweep the Islanders

Round 2- Home ice advantage against the Devils, fall behind 3-0 and win 4-3 with an OT winner in game 7 with an assist from Lundqvist on the winner

ECF- Rangers beat Bruins 4-2 in a tough, physical series where we outbattle them and win at least 2 games in OT

Finals- Hawks vs Rangers- always such entertaining games, with the Rangers winning games 1 & 3 before winning game 5 at the Garden. Hawks win at their place in game 6 before a breakaway OT clincher in game 7. An end to a great, fast paced series

Pittsburgh
Idk. As a Pens fan, last year was pretty perfect.

Flyers - Didn't make the playoffs at all
CBJ - Ruined their hopes of winning a playoff round.... again
Caps - Gave them hope only to snatch it away in a game 7
Sens - Not really a "rival" but you can't argue with a double OT game 7
And Preds - Was a different team then we're used to seeing, with a loud and obnoxious home crowd.... good feeling to silence them in their own building with back to back shutouts.

1st: Wild for regional reputation
2nd: Ducks 2.0 for vengeance
WCF: Nashville for rep as best team in league
SCF: Toronto/Capitals to squash Laine/Matthews or Laine/Ovi comparisons

In honour of the start of Playoff hockey being nigh, lets just imagine you have been declared the new "Hockey God"; the first thing you will do would be to have your favorite team win the Cup, correct? So in a perfect world, where you could guarantee the outcome of every best of seven series, what path to the Cup (constrained by current NHL playoff rules and divisional/conference compositions) would you design for your team for next year (2019)?

For me:

Toronto Maple Leafs:

1st round vs the Boston Bruins:
-I loathe the Bruins most of all and would love to see the Buds extract revenge for 2013. I either want to see them beaten either in 7 games, with a big game 7 comeback by the Leafs, to mirror 2013, or them just flat out sweeping Boston in 4... with Brad Marchand somehow breaking his knuckles trying to sucker-punch a Leafs player.

2nd round vs the Montreal Canadians
-This one is mostly for the sake of history, the actual game on the ice wouldn't likely be brilliant since Montreal's toothless offense means to make the 2nd round of the playoffs, they would need to have Price just stand on his head through a full season. Still Montreal and Toronto is the big rivalry in hockey and seeing that resurgent would be awesome (one team always seems to be crap when the other is decent). I would take the Leafs in a tight-checking 6 game, low scoring series.

Conference finals vs the Pittsburgh Penguins
-This one is simple: to be the best you have to beat the best, and for me a run to the Finals wouldn't be complete without having to go through the two best centres of their generation in Crosby and Malkin and their (current) two-time defending championship Penguins. It would be amazing to see the young players on the Leafs rise to the occasion and knock-off the best team of the previous generation. I would hope ideally for a high-scoring 7 game series.

Stanley Cup Finals vs the Edmonton Oilers
-Another current non-playoff team here, which a lot would have to change for them to make the 2019 Finals, but seeing Matthews, Marner and Nylander go up against and win the cup vs the best player in the world in Connor McDavid would be amazing. I would want a 7 game overtime victory (all Stanley Cup Finals should last 7 games in a perfect world) with Auston Matthews scoring the winning goal. That would be the most perfect way for the Leafs to break the '67 curse.

Honorable mentions:
Winnipeg Jets- are an awesome young team and my favorite team out west, but I want them to win a Cup of their own and seeing the Leafs beat them in the Finals would be bitter-sweet.

Tampa Bay Lightning- Are a stacked with offensive talent and are the sexy Cup pick this year. A series between them and the Leafs could likely happen this year (although I don't think the Leafs would actually win it if it does) and would likely be a wonderful gong-show of speed and beautiful offense. The issue here is that they just don't have the rivalry with the Leafs that Montreal and Boston do.

So what are your guys scenarios for your teams?
Cbus round 1
Caps round 2
who cares round 3
beat the preds again round 4.

the chances of round two actually happening are what like 4 outta all the playoff series all time? So like 1 in 500?
