I'd do it. You see it all the time in the NBA where stars hampered by injuries and other circumstances go on to solid careers as good team players, just not the superstar role they were in previously. I don't see anything wrong with the scenario unless there's someone still in the organization unwilling to bury the hatchets or Karlsson wouldn't accept that role.
I think Karlsson would still be our #1. Chabot eats minutes and is postionally good but he doesn't have the pure skill Karlsson does on one foot. Karlsson is the type of player that will give his forwards an extra 15-20 points per season.

Ya no.

We need someone who can win a body battle and $5 million to pay Zub, Pinto or Cat or whoever we are struggling to keep soon… I’m assuming Formy is already gone.

I’d take Zub’s game over EK’s game for the next 5 years and I’m not even a Zub fan.
Sure, there a a lot of bottom pairing dmen who can fit that role. We need a point producer. We need a Dman better than Chabot. Chabot is a great number 2 and would be on Karlssons other side. Everyone else would side into their spots.

Unless his (karlssons) cap hit number to us is 5 or less, there is really no point having the conversation.
If we want to keep the top 6 + pinto long term along with Chabot Zub Sanderson then whomever we bring on more than a 2 year deal MUST have a salary below 5 million to have a chance to hold the roster together.
A rising salary cap will save us after year 3, just have to get there! May/will need a bridge contract in there with Sanderson.
Grieg entry level on 3rd line with Pinto (maybe Formenton still) then 3 more guys for the 4th line.

It’s going to be close!

$87 million
F- 53.7
Tkachuk 8.2 Norris 8 Batherson 5
DeBrincat 9 Stutzle 9 Giroux 6.5
? 1 Pinto 3 ? 1
3 million total 4th line

D- 29
Chabot 8 Zub 5
Sanderson 8 Chychryn 5
Kleven 1 Thomson 1
#7 guy 1

G- 4
Forsberg 3
SoGaard 1

I thought he looked pretty good last year before another injury. I would worry more about his ability to stay healthy than I would him having a positive impact on the lineup.

Of the UFA's who's left that can actually improve us? Klingberg? Do we really want to give up prospects to do a trade? Of all the teams look to shed salary there are not that many with the type of player we need. Even moving Burns the Sharks are still against the cap. Bring the kid home.

Really ? Like who? What dman is going to take possession away from elite forwards and send it the other way.

Shut down dman are harder to find than PP only dman… we have Chabit, Brann, and Sanderson who are all capable of running a PP and Lassi is close.

Adam Larsson is probably someone the sens should target right now. It probably won't take a Taylor Hall level player this time to acquire him. Would give Seattle Brannstrom + one of JBD/Thomson + Zaitsev to get it done.
A few issues:

1) Why is Seattle trading him? I don't think they want to be known as the new Vegas and he is one of their few players who belongs in the top half of a lineup.
2) Are we on his NTC? He has a 10 team NTC. There is no guarantee that he would accept a trade to us.
3) Do we really have a ton to offer Seattle? They have 6 picks in the top 96 and will add more, and they have a handful of young players up front, but very few on D. Are Brannstrom and Thomson/JBD going to be of real appeal to them?

Are we talking about NHL hockey players here? Bran can run a pp? Lassi and Sanderson have yet to play a hole season and you are already penning them in to fill holes? You must have loved White getting that contract to be our #2 center. Karlsson can slow the play down.

Very simple, the guys you are talking about have yet to play a full season in the NHL yet you are relying on them to be our pp specialists and depend on for offence. You must be the lone person who thought giving White the contract Dohrion game him was a smart move if you are willing to put the fate of our D in the hands of inexperience.

Let’s ruin a good room by bringing one of the league’s biggest ego’s into the room to play a supporting role. He’d be an upgrade on the ice for sure but I’d pass.

OMG - not sure what to say re bold …

I think your context is really lost … somebody may help….
Id suggest reading the “White contract “ thread for perspective.

You’re mis equating skill with toughness - we have lots of skill and little physicality - we don’t need more 30+ year old EK.

Ego's come from accomplishments. I don't want players on the team who are intimidated by it. Swagger.

Don't get caught up on that then. Just focus on the rest.

I’d be fine running with Lassi or JBD to be honest, we don’t know what we have in either player yet and we need to find out.

I don’t want to give up any more assets until we know.

We as fans don’t know. But I’m sure management is pretty sure they know what they have (rightly or wrongly) and that’s why neither is penciled in over Hamonic, Holden, Zaitsev

Not sure I buy into the locker room distraction theory here, but he isn't the type of Dman we need imo, particularly not with his salary (even retained).

Ideally, I'd like a more physical two way guy. I guy like Parayko would be ideal (not that he's an option)

for the upcoming season I would also say Chabot is better then Karlsson. When Karlsson was the same age as Chabot is now he was a better player then Chabot currently is. However Karlsson has an awful lot of rough miles on him.
