Condolences to his family. He had a bigger role in the history of hockey than most ever will. God speed.

Legend. One of the best enforcers of all time, no doubt. He can spar with Muhammad Ali up in heaven.

This is quite sad.

The glory days Oilers had a special chemistry. Semenko was certainly part of that.

An icon from the dynasty Oilers. He will be remembered by hockey fans for a long time for all that he accomplished across his career as an Oilers player. It wasn't an easy job, and how Gretzky (among others) treated him speaks to how well-respected he was in the dressing room.

Had the pleasure of meeting Dave a few times through work. Very sweet, genuine man. Massive loss. He will be incredibly missed.

RIP Dave. Had the privilege of meeting him 4 months ago in February. This is shocking.

Wow, only 59. But cancer doesn't care how old you are. Really tough to swallow, as I grew up watching him play, and it really hammers away at your own mortality thoughts.

I know he lived life pretty hard, from all reports, but still.

The toughest hombre in the league during his heyday and dinosaurs ruled the day, and it wasn't close. The Oilers all played 3 inches taller and 20 lbs heavier when he was on the ice.

Very sad news. A great cog in the machine that was the 80's Oilers. His role may not have been as glamorous as the Hall of Fame gang but it was an important one.

The man defined the role of hockey enforcer for the decade. He also was a man of great humour.

May he rest in peace.
