He plays pretty calm, reminds me of guys like Lehtonen and Price in that regard. Good size, good athleticism.

Plays for a more if a middle of the pack/fringe playoff team in the MHL, so that's likely why he's more under the radar. Most of the Russian G's that get drafted play for the top couple programs.

Might be a bust but goalies are a crapshoot. No issue tossing a 4th at a goalie. With goalies, you don't have the faintest idea until 3-5 years after drafting anyway, it's all about how they start translating to the pro game, so until they hit the AHL and play a couple years there, just don't know.

And remember, Lundqvist and Rinne were like 7th round picks. With goalies you just kinda draft some and hope lol
And Bobrovski. If we’re staying with Russian roots.

Flames site has an article about Chechelev and how they ended up "accidentally" scouting him during the covid lockdown (because of the Flames connection to the Sioux City USHL team, who did draft Chechelev, though he obviously never came over).

Treliving looks at Askarov the Marvel. Dude decides he's going to go with the option with less fanfare in D.C.

This pick is AoK.

Is, "Don't get cocky" the correct phrasing to use for DC? For DC, is it just about getting to the stage of being ready?

okay cold water time

- big ice inflates goalie stats
- MHL is just a junior league
- small sample size
- wins are a team stat
- he's a Flames goalie prospect

I was ready to dispute you until the last one :P

Same.

It was basically like a ton of meh reasons, then the last line was the straw that broke the camel's back in epic fashion.

Jokes on us. Now that we have Markstrom, Parsons will rebound, Wolf will turn into a #1 and Chechelev is the next Tretiak but we'll trade him before he becomes that.

really we need Markstrom to be a starter for like 4 years. He can be a 1a/1B guy with whoever emerges out of that group for the final few years. Hopefully your scenario comes to fruition

Would really like to see Parsons compete with Zags for starter in th AHL, whenever that is.
Wolf & Cheech we don't have to worry about for awhile.

Technically now at 3 GP in the VHL but only two starts, both of which have been shutouts.

Now sitting at a .987 SV% in the VHL after today
